dumb cheerios question
When did you start giving baby cheerios?
And are teeth required?

Re: dumb cheerios question
I started to give Julia cheerios around 9 months, once I saw she ate the Gerber puffs ok. In the beginning I would brake them in half, just to make sure she could eat them ok.

Re: dumb cheerios question
I started the puffs at 9 months, I would break them in half just to see if she was ok with them, soooo afraid of choking! I was breaking them up for her for a few weeks, then just gave her them whole, and she was fine.

Between 6 and 7 months with mine. I tried puffs first too because they dissolve. It's important that they have the chewing reflex and not teeth.

Re: dumb cheerios question
I started puffs in his 8th month and once he handled those well moved on to cheerios (abou 9 months). My ped was very big on waiting until 9-10 months for both saying they are nothing but a choking hazard and not needed but I started puffs at 8.5 because Kevin seemed more than ready and did fine with them - it took about 2 weeks before he really grasped picking them up and eating them all by himself.
Oh and Kevin had no teeth until he was 13.5 months old - he was pretty much on 100% table food by then - they have strong gums!!

When can I give Gerber puffs?
DS is 7 months and we tried these puff things and DS 1st put one in his mouth and didn't like the taste and spit it out. Then he tried another one, but this time he tried sucking it and there it goes.... straight into the back of his throat (possibly wind pipe). He starts chocking and I panic. Doing a crazy finger sweep, I pull the darn thing out.... It will be a long while before we try those things again... There is nothing more scary than a chocking baby

Re: dumb cheerios question
You can probably give the gerber puffs now. We started them at around 5/6 months and she had no problem with them at all and LOVED them.
We started the cheereos about 3 weeks ago and she's only starting to LOVE them now. She was addicted to puffs! But now she gets excited, giggles and claps when I take the box down from on top of the fridge.
We are giving her SO much "people" food now --- you'd be surprised how good her little gums are at mashing stuff down so she doesn't choke. She's the master of finger foods right now.
