Re: Dumb epidural question...
Yup. And be prepared, it's pretty common to get an urinary tract infection from the catheter.
I had no idea how much fun childbirth was until after the fact. I had no idea about a whole bunch of stuff. My fault, I didn't research it enough. You girls will be much more prepared than I was.

One more reason I am glad I didn't get an epi. A cath. is just not my cup of tea.

Re: Dumb epidural question...
The catheter isn't painful. Its slightly uncomfortable on the way in, but considering how many people stick their hands in you that day you'll barely notice.

Hmm... I don't know. But they won't remove it until the epi totally wears off so you can walk to the bathroom. I don't remember feeling it being put in or taken out. But I did get a UTI, as did one of my friends.

When I found out about this I was motified. I warned DH so he knew what might be coming. I can't believe what happens - the more I think about it, the more I freak out.

LOL.. yeah-- don't forget to warn DH about an episiotomy... I told him EVERYTHING to expect except for that.. while I was delivering they told me they were gonna have to give me one, and as they did I watched my husband go from supportive and strong( ) to white as a ghost and mortified!!! ---- that was the ONLY time I thought he was gonna --- After we were home he was like.. Did you know they were gonna do that?!?! Is that Normal?!?!? and I am so happy you didn't feel it!! I told him I knew they were doing it and yes I too was happy i couldnt feel it!! I apologized for not warning him!!

Re: Dumb epidural question...
So many of these things like a catheter dont even matter to you when you are having a baby. Its only when you are thinking about it now while you are not in labor.

Unless you have a c-section, in which case it comes out about 24 hours later. But at that point I begged the nurse to keep it in because I couldn't fathom getting out of bed! Anyway, it didn't hurt at all on the way in or out.

Trust me you won't care. I had no shame after giving birth. Crap I kept yelling "I just want to go poop" when I was pushing her out. Surprisingly I didn't poo. I was shocked.

I didn't even remember them putting the catheter in. Trust me when you are in labor all modesty goes out the window.
