Dumb question: Can you put car seats on captains chairs?

Dumb question: Can you put car seats on captains chairs?
If you get an SUV/minivan that has captains chairs in the second row and a bench seat for the third row, do the car seats have to go on the bench seat in the 3rd row or can they go on the captains chairs?

i've seen tons of parents in the park with the carseats in the captains chairs.

I have a minivan and put the carseat on the captain chair, it also has the latch system.

Yes! I have them in my 2nd row to have full access to my 3rd row

yep I have The convertible Seat right now in the Captians seat and will soon have two infant ones there.
