Dumb question for the cooks - how can I mix frozen veggies with pasta?
If I'm making shells, when I'm boiling it - can I throw frozen veggies in the pot with the pasta? I have a mix - peas and carrots.
If I can - when do I add them?
Next dumb question - to make them with a garlic and oil sauce - how do I do that? When it's finished do I just toss it with olive oil and chopped garlic? Do I have to put it in another pan and cook the garlic and oil and then add the cooked pasta and veggies? Can I add butter? Other spices?
I just want to make a pasta side dish for pork chops....
I am not good just winging it if you can't tell.
Thanks!!

I would cook paste separately. Then in a pan sautee your garlic, black pepper and whatever other spices in EVOO or butter, or a mix of both, whatever you like! I would then add the frozen veggies into that pan and they will defrost/get hot. Add the pasta to the pan with the sauce and mix. If the pan is too small mix them in a bowl!
Also, you can out some on the pasta cooking liquid on the side before draining, if the pasta seems dry after you mix your oil based sauce you can add a bit!

I do what you suggested even with fresh vegg if they need to be blanched first.
it's great too, b/c nutrients (and flavor) seeps into the pasta water and then into the pasta adding an extra layer of flavor and depth.
I actually add the veg to the boiling water FIRST. let it sit for a few then take them out using a strainer. then I add the pasta and cook.
like PP said, depending on what I am making, I reserve an small amount of pasta water to help the sauce/topping along if needed.
