During pg or after birth... when did it become real to you?

Every once in a while, I start to think "woa! I'm actually having a baby"... however, I don't think that it's actually HIT me that we're having a baby (which equals HUGE change in our lives). When did it finally hit you that you were a parent? Before, after, or during birth?

definitely after I actually held her for the first time. it's still so surreal even now that she has gotten so big.

DEFINATELY after I gave birth....not even during the actual labor

I felt the same way and it was definetely after, even then it blew our minds. We are so honored to have her as our daughter. I am still in awe of her and being her parents.

After I was home with her...

God - probably about 2 months after he was born...I kept waiting for his "real" parents to come pick him up

I still wonder when I am going to feel like a mom!
I told dh I feel like an imposter pushing a stroller through the mall!

Day 3 - When we had to leave the hospital without him - and I broke down sobbing.

It STILL hasn't hit me!!!

No seriously though, it didn't become real until I was home with her.

Definitely after the birth and maybe not even until we went home with her.

Well, it kind of hit me on the way to the hospital for my induction. I bawled like a baby the whole way, begged DH to turn the car around...sobbing that I STILL wasn't ready.

But the true reality of it probably really hit me our first day home... I thought omg, this kid is here to stay!

Def after I had him. The day I was going home actually. And I think that was b/c while in the hospital for the 2 nights i was there, I didnt do middle of the night feedings. I left that up to the nurses. So the actual day I went home with him, and had to feed him for ALL THE FEEDINGS (WEE HOURS OF THE MORN INCLUDED) I bawled like crazy. It may sound selfish but I was like, "oh my God, I have this baby that relys on me to feed him all the time, and is taking away all of my sleep." It was so overwhelming for me at first. I cried for 2 weeks. I was so hormonal. Crying in joy of this gorgeous new baby, and crying that knowing the life I was so used to (sleeping late, going and coming whenever i pleased, taking naps etc) WAS GONE!! It was so life altering for me. But now, I cant imagine my life any other way....

When I heard him cry for the first time. I couldn't believe that was my baby.

When the Dr told me I needed to go to the hopital to be induced. I told him I didn't want to go and talked him into letting me go in the morning instead of going right there. I was an hour away from home and my DH was home.

When I went to the pediatrician two days after coming home from the hospital and the nurse said "What insurance do you have for your son?" And I thought...My What? Oh, MY son.
