Re: DVC-Rental.com
I had a very good experience with them. I told the owner where I wanted to stay and for how long, and he came back to me with availability of the three places. Then I was able to narrow down my choices.
I think I had to give a deposit of around $400, and then had to give the balance pretty quickly. But they hold it in 'escrow' so that the owner that is renting to you doesn't walk away with the money and cancel the room on you.
The day of check in I sent him a quick email saying we were in our room and he released payment to who we rented from.
It was quite painless and got us into a room that was originally out of our price range.

I was hoping you answered bc I thought you had used them. I am very nervous. I dot understand how much each point is. Can you add tickets and a meal plan or no?

They will tell you the price per point. USually with those exchanges the going rate is $13 per point.
You can all tickets and dining plan. The member has to do it for you. I would also think that if you are adding tickets and dining plan those would have to be paid up front and in full because members have to pay for them that way, and I know as a member I would not want to lay out that money for someone else.

Re: DVC-Rental.com
The tough part about those exchanges/brokers is that they do give you an extra level of security (the money in escrow, etc) but what happens if the member just decides they want to use their points? They can still back out, they just won't get the money. I'd still be a little nervous, but I have heard good reviews about those sites.

If we had wanted to add dining or tickets, we had up to the week we were going to add them.
I got my tickets online and we decided not to do the dining.
We also had to sign a contract for the points-I believe the person who owned the points did as well so that you couldn't back out.

You do, that's true. When you add them you need to pay the whole amount. I'm holding off adding my dining plan for that reason.

Re: DVC-Rental.com
I'm using them. We originally booked WL and were planning on dining etc. Then (you may have read this other post I made) we went on a few short summer vacays with the kids and realized dining was a baaad idea and also that we needed to rent a car. I then decided that we would stay at an off-site all suite hotel like 2 miles from wdw. Well, then I found out about this site. I'm paying $12 a point and staying in a savannah view room at Animal Kingdom Lodge at like a 60% discount from the rack rate.
It is a contract so I highly doubt that the DVC owner will back out BUT I kept my reservation at the other hotel just in case. I can cancel that with no penalty up until like 2 days before so I see no harm in keeping it.

Re: DVC-Rental.com
We're DVC members, but I used them to rent a room for my parents when they came down with us. Everything was perfect. No problems at all

I hear you but I think at $12 per point it's market rate, so there's not too much to be worried about. I would think a lower dollar amount would be too good to be true. Plus the fact that an lifer had a successful trip means so so much to me.

Re: DVC-Rental.com
I'm curious do they tell you what happens if the member does reneg on their contract? Then I guess you are down there and have to eat the large difference in cost because a hotel at rack rate will cost a lot more than what you originally booked. This is what makes me nervous about doing this. It seems like such a great deal.
Just like I found an agency that seems to have been around for a while as well. Tikiman advertises for them and looks like many on disboards have booked through them. I take it they get "block" rooms maybe because they have some deals that are not through disney. I know they had a deal that was $2500 or so for 4 people for a week the last week in Aug with 7 day park hoppers for 4 (2 adults 2 kids). I assume they got that since the GF is under major construction. But I was hesitant to look through them as well because it just seems like too good a deal. They seem to get something like 50-60% off the poly or some other resorts (of course for specific dates or date ranges - and don't always have specials). I would be concerned that something would go wrong.

Re: DVC-Rental.com
I asked about the dvc owner reneging. He told me that it has not happened to him yet but it's obviously a viable concern and someday it probably will happen. The dvc owner does not get your money until you are physically checked into the hotel. As I said in my previous post I am hanging on to a no money down fully cancelable reservation at an off-site hotel just in case. I would definitely not pay rack rate to stay on property last minute. To me it would be a disappointment and a hassle but not a big enough deal or chance that it'll happen to stop me.

Re: DVC-Rental.com
I had never heard of this but I just looked at the prices and wow - the deals are amazing!
I find it interesting that Disney is okay with people transferring points but I guess that makes buying DVC more attractive.

It's kind of a weird thing. There actually are provisions in the contract that would seem to actually prohibit renting, but so far they only seem to crack down if you rent out your points several times a year. They could, however start being more strict at any time.
If you ever see a DVC rental where someone is trying to give you a specific week at a specific location and telling you that you'll have to pay a $95 "resort fee", steer clear. Those are people who traded in and they are 100% not allowed to rent that out.
One downside to DVC (renting and owning) is no mousekeeping. You also can't take advantage of any public offers such as free dining, so it's important to know all that going in.
