E-bay sellers - question

I am thinking of selling some things on ebay. Does anyone have any advice or things I need to know before I do this? My items don't have a theme other than things I really don't want!

TIA!

Be as decriptive as possible.

Take good pictures.

Make sure your shipping fees asre as accurate as possible -- you don't want to have to chip in on the shipping.

Set up an account with paypal to accept payments.

Check for similar items that have sold for listing price information.

Good luck!!

I agree. Be sure to mention the condition of the item. If it's new, be sure to mention it in the title of them item.

I recommend paying the extra 35 cents for a gallary photo. It draws attention to your auction.

Take a clear photo in a well lit room. I recommend using your own pictures instead of stock photos of the items from websites. People can then see the condition of the item for themselves and won't bombard you with useless questions.

I agree with all of this also. Definately check out similiar items that you want to sell. You will get an idea of the wording. Warning, once you start selling on ebay, it gets addictive! I was searching my apartment looking for more stuff to sell! Also, if you know of anyone who uses Ebay ask them for help in getting you started.

I agree on the addicting part. I just started selling some stuff on Ebay and made about $250 in the past 3 weeks - and I thought some of the things would never sell. I told my husband one day he was going to come home and the house was going to be empty!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: E-bay sellers - question

Thank you so much everyone!

What about shipping costs? When I do the estimator, I get different prices for different areas of the country. What should I select?

THANK YOU!

PS, I think I'm addicted already and I haven't even listed anything yet!

I always price my stuff using 90210 Chat Icon as the zip code.

I also try to ship most things priority mail -- you can get free packaging from the post office, print and pay for the labels online and if you do that you get free delivery confirmation which is essential (imo).

Re: E-bay sellers - question

I dont get involved in international shipping. Once in awhile if someone specifically emails me and asks me I'll do it but otherwise its a PITA to estimate the shipping costs. Domestic only has always worked out nice.

LMAO Christine, I do the same thing - its the only zip code I can think of thats in CA that I know 100% that it exists. Better to be over on shipping than under. Sometimes Ive overshot it by alot and will refund $$ to the person.

Do your research on ebay before you post. Search and find other listings that are the same as your item to get a feel for the starting price, availability, etc. Make sure you check the completed listings too so you can see how much you might expect to get.

If you absolutely dont want to sell it below a certain price, use a Reserve price. It costs a little more but at least you know you are guaranteed that price or not be obligated. I did that recently with a few things and was very happy I did. One item did not hit the reserve but when I relisted it, it did.
