Ear piercing spin-off: Pediatrician recommendations versus personal opinion/desire

If your pediatrician posted a sign in their office that they start ear piercing at a certain age and you wanted to have it done sooner, would you feel comfortable doing it elsewhere regardless of that posting? I wanted to have dd ears pierced sooner than my pediatricians office is willing to do it and I feel like by that sign being posted, if I do it sooner, it will be frowned upon . . .

I'm feeling the sameway as you. I want dd ears pierced sooner then the PED office allows. My worry is going somewhere other then my PED office. I think it would be frowned on but they will get over it in my eyes. I see it as, what's the worse they could do, say something to me about doing it to early?

My peds office didn't do it until 6 months ( I had wanted it done at 4)...I asked them why 6 months and they said that the babies earlobes are not done growing at 4 months

Don't know if that meant that the lobes go through a bigger growth before the 6 month mark and it slows down after that or what and I was too to ask...So I just went with their reccomendation and had them do it at the 6 month appointment ...It appeared to me that it was more of an asthetic reason ( that the holes would not be properly placed before then, no other medical reason)

my Peds office does it at 3 months, and that is about the time i wanted to get them done for her.

if they said 6 months i would have found another dr. to pierce them at 3 months.

i would NOT though take her to a mall place

I would ask the doctor why they suggest that age....and then, if they have a good reason, I'd wait and have them do it.
If they don't have a good reason, then see if you can find another doctor to do it.
Personally, I don't see the rush with piercing ears, so I'd probably just wait until she was old enough according to my doctor.
