Early Internal Ultrasounds?
Hi Girls! New here, just found out Thursday. I had been working with a fertility specialist (Dr. Hershlag at North Shore)....And he wants to see me weekly (which is good bc I'm neurotic and have a million questions)....But another question-----he does weekly internal ultrasounds (with the probe).....Is there any risk to baby with these ultrasounds every week?
I would think given his specialty, they would NEVER do anything to risk anything, but as previously mentioned, I'm neurotic. THanks!!

Re: Early Internal Ultrasounds?
I have gotten several internal sonos while pregnant and was never told of ANY risk - I'm sure they would tell you if there was. Congrats!!!!!

Re: Early Internal Ultrasounds?
why so often? i found that the only time i worried with my son was during and after the internal ultrasound that i found quite unnecessary (as did my new dr. mid-term) mainly because it caused bleeding and had me totally spooked.
sorry, but even if it's a meticulous specialitist, i wouldn't want quite so many if any. my first dr. was big into infertility treatments as well and insisted i needed it.
just my perspective.

Re: Early Internal Ultrasounds?
Most IF dr's want to see you more often when you get pg and it's very common to do internal sonos during the beginning....you can see more with the internal sonos than with the external ones in the beginning. IF specialists also tend to monitor you more closely...at least mines did. I had my last internal scan at my 12 week ultrascreen. Congrats!!!!!

Re: Early Internal Ultrasounds?
I have had transvaginal ultrasounds every week from week 13 until now (week 27 was my latest). I have a cerclage so my doctor needs to check my cervix every week.

Re: Early Internal Ultrasounds?
I too was treated at NSUH, they do the weekly sono's until 10 weeks, when they will release you to your OB - then you will probably not have another one for a month and then you should fall into regular pregnancy pattern of sono's. They do it weekly in the beginning to keep a close eye on your progress, check yolk sac, fetal pole & finally h/b, which they can't always see straight away. I think at such an early stage there is no danger to the embryo, otherwise I am sure they wouldn't do it, they are a very cautious clinic and just want to make sure that the pregnancy is progressing well before they send you off! I honestly wouldn't worry, I had them and I'm not worried. Congratulations!

Re: Early Internal Ultrasounds?
congrats!
I am sure your dr. would not put you or your baby at risk, and if there was Risk associated with doing it so often, he would tell you.
I have not hear of any risk associated iwth ultrasounds.
