East Meadow - Thoughts?
DH and I have seen some small homes in East Meadow and we like the area. My friend said that it's a great area (and I know that she knows). Other opinions?

My husband grew up there and his parents still live there. There are some nice parts. From what i have heard the school district is just okay. It's a huge town because it includes eisenhower park but its convenient to everything. I think i would get lost in a town that large but if that doesnt bother you i think its a pretty nice place to live.

The town is big. It has 2 highschools. But def look into the school district. THey are having a lot of issues!

I heard the schools are ok. A friend told me that there's an area that's a little nicer and homes are more expensive on that side - Barnum Woods I think it's called.

this is partiallly true...there's east meadow HS and there's WT Clarke HS which is in westbury but the EMSD. that HS is basically for the kids who live in the salisbury area (that's where i went). my parents bought a house in east meadow 4 years ago in the barnum woods section which is a great section, but the taxes kill! if you want EM then look in the Mcvey section or clearmeadow, taxes are still decent.

my folks live in Barnum Woods, great area. taxes are high - although they pay less than most do in Levittown.

I have been doing a LOT of research on East Meadow, cause I like the area. and FH and I are looking.
I am realizing that the "north side" is a bit better (barnum woods school & meadowbrook school for elementary and Clarke for middle and high school)
It's not that the "south side" is bad though.
If you go to Great Schools and look up the school district. You can see "community dynamics" and school testing info.

I know the area well and think that Salisbury and the area around Woodland MS are the nicest.

DH and I lived in an apt in east meadow and really liked the area, it was so close to EVERYTHING. We looked at houses there but ended up buying somewhere else..good luck

Dh and i live here
Our old house was in Barnum woods. When I was in real estate they use to say the best of its section was west of merrick ave.
There are 5 elementary schools, and they feed into two different h.s. Definately check it out, drive around the different area's you'll get a feel for what you like best.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate all the feedback. It really helps when you're not sure. i lived there in an apartment 7 years ago but i was single and didn't have kids. I only lived there for 6 months but loved the area.

I live in the Salisbury section of Westbury. I like it there but I want a bigger house but I probably wont move because my taxes are lower than most.

I grew up in East Meadow. I lived in the number streets by the hospital. I went to McVey, Woodland and East Meadow HS. Schools are okay, I'd send my kids there. I always liked it there and its close to everything. My parents still live there.
