eating after a run (3 miles +)
I eat almost immediately after, because I feel like I need it - I eat a mix of protein and carbs.
But am I doing the right thing? Should I wait longer? Eat more protein than carbs or more carbs than protein?
TIA

After weight training you need carbs and protein. I am sure the same applies for running.

Re: eating after a run (3 miles +)
I always crave bread after a run. I can never eat anything heavy after running 3+ miles.

You should always eat a small meal with a mixture of carbs and protein - but shouldn't eat 3 hours before a workout and until 1 hour after (your body is still burning calories for a period of time after a workout)

This totally sounds like body for life rules.
I wonder if I'd be able to make it just a half hour today after my run! I'm a piggy.

that's so funny.
I have no idea. I avoid food like the plague after a run. my stomach is usually in all sorts of turmoil.
but I can see the carb craving...since you are using up your stores during the run. the protein is more to restore/maintain muscle.

I take my pigdom seriously.
Lately I've just been weak and famished afterward so I feel like I have to have something.
And I can't crave carbs except for rice, fruit and veggies.

hey it works!!!!
You should do it hardcore for the 12 weeks and then not do it for 3+ years and then you can tell everyone else what they should do without actually doing it yourself all the while mourning the loss of your tiny heiny just like I do!

Re: eating after a run (3 miles +)
i've heard that you should eat within a half hour of finishing your run so that your body has fuel to repair your muscles. i think if you're hungry right after then you should eat...
