eating during the 1st trimester
I'm almost 5 weeks and i keep thinking i'm not eating enough. (i'm on thinner side and definitely don't want to lose weight) My appetite has definitely waned and whenever I eat, i'm not REALLY hungry. I can't eat at all in the morning...the thought makes me nausea and i have to force myself to eat lunch. Is this normal??? I always thought i would have an increased appetite.

Re: eating during the 1st trimester
Honestly my appetite didn't increase until the second trimester. Try to eat whatever you can even if it isn't really that healthy for you. I found that all I could eat were carbs (pasta and bagels) Not the ideal diet but it held me through till the end of the 1st trimester.

Re: eating during the 1st trimester
At almost 14 weeks I still have a pitiful appetite My husband asked the doctor about how much I should be eating and the doctor advised that I should eat smaller meals throughout the day and eat what I can handle. He also advised that bland foods would probably be easier for me to eat and digest, even though I never had the m/s. Good luck!

Re: eating during the 1st trimester
In the first trimester you should eat whatever appeals to you whenever it appeals to you. Don't force yourself to eat a full meal if you are feeling nauseous. Instead have a few crackers or a piece of cheese or fruit every 4-5 hours.

Re: eating during the 1st trimester
my doctor advised me that there was no need "to eat more than normal" in the first trimester. this does not present a problem as i have no interest in eating, i feel so yucky. it seems like salty things such as wheat thins, terra chips, even cottage cheese, go down best.

Re: eating during the 1st trimester
I am in my eighth week now and I get this hunger feeling and then I eat but I can't eat alot. I eat very little but I also eat throughout the day. Our bodies are going through major changes and everyone is different. So eat what you can and Good Luck!

Re: eating during the 1st trimester
1st trimester is the time when you may eat less because of food aversions and morning sickness.
You will feel more normal in your 2nd tri. Just make sure you take you prenatals and drinks fluids.

Re: eating during the 1st trimester
i lost 10 pounds during my first trimester from morning sickness. i had zero appetite and couldn't keep anything down. now i'm 35 weeks and my weight gain has more or less "caught up" and the baby is growing perfectly.
from a physiologic standpoint, your body actually doesn't need more calories than usual during the first trimester.

Re: eating during the 1st trimester
The first trimester i lost weight, b/c i couldnt eat a thing and i had morning sickness all day and night. Talk to your doctor, mine put me on prenatal vitamin for nausea, and kept an eye on my weight. As long as i didnt loose too much i was okay.
What he told me that made me feel better is.. no matter what amount you eat, the baby is getting what it needs from you.. The only one lacking the nutrients will be the mother. Its only for a few weeks (hopefully), so just try and do what you can and dont worry..

Re: eating during the 1st trimester
I feel the same way, I'm not hungry at all in the moring, the thought of food makes me sick, I can only drink some juice. Lunch and dinner I have no problems eating, I'm usually starving!!
During the 1st trimester there is just so much going on with your body and your hormones, usually by the 2nd trimester you feel much better and get your appetite back again.
