Eating healthy while pregnant??
Just curious but how healthy do you girls eat. Now for the most part I'm pretty good but there is definitely room for improvement. I haven't cut out salt or sugar completely, do eat junk on occasions sometimes and I love carbs (so that's a problem). How seriously do you take it? I'm asking because being pregnant makes it extra hard to be good, especially with the cravings and urge to pig out sometimes. How do you all do it?!

Re: Eating healthy while pregnant??
I always tried to make sure I was hitting a decent amount from each food group.I made sure that a bulk of what I was eating wasn't just carbs and that I was eating stuff with real nutritional value .. vegetables... fruit... Sometimes I found it helped to go food shopping weekly and purposely look to change things up. If I bought grapes last week, I'd buy oranges the next.. something like that.. just to keep things interesting
I try to do that in general, even not pregnant- but I was def way more health conscious when I knew there was a baby in there!

Re: Eating healthy while pregnant??
I def eat very well I'd say 5-6 days a week. I usually eat cheerios every morning and fruit and veggies during the day and a salad for lunch. I may throw a cookie or piece of chocolate in there during the day. 1 day I have a big bowl of pasta. But I only eat whole wheat anything. I never have reg pasta or bread. It is hard to stay healthy especially around the holidays. I know I'm going to gain weight, it's part of pregnancy, but I'd like to at least know that I'm eating healthy for the baby.

Re: Eating healthy while pregnant??
1st time around - I did pretty good... and I felt fantastic.
this time - not so much. I've been eating really everything that I've wanted b/c I haven't been feeling good (m/s) , including fast food. Which normally I would steer clear of. this makes me feel kindof crappy too - it's been a non productive cycle....
I really need to calm down before I am sorry....
OK - I'll start the day AFTER Christmas....

Re: Eating healthy while pregnant??
Luckily my only craving since day 1 has been salad. I was a little on the heavier side before I got preggo...so I also always had on my mind that I couldn't gain much. At work if I wanted an egg sandwhich or an omlet for breakfast, I'd ditch the cheese, add a veggie and usually be full until dinner. I really just eat normal...I still eat what I want, I just give up other things. My OB told me not to diet, just avoid empty calories, my last appointment I gained 6lbs in 4 weeks and she was a bit upset with me...but I feel like this time around I may have lost a bit.

Re: Eating healthy while pregnant??
I do OK, definitely can do better. I make sure I eat plenty of veggies and fruits--I kind of do a checklist (in my head) of the different food groups and see what I've eaten throughout the day. My downfall is definitely sugar. I have such a sweet tooth, it's ridiculous. Some of the girls on here post about how they splurge and had two cookies one day, and I feel so disgusting when I think about how many cookies I have eaten in the past .
So, I guess I do pretty well, I just need to lay off the sweets.

Re: Eating healthy while pregnant??
I eat awful. I wouldn't say I cheat because it really isn't like that for me. I cannot stomach anything so I eat whatever is appealing whenever it appeals to me. My pathetic pregnancy staples consist of cereal, oatmeal, luna bars, rice, some pasta, hummus, oranges, pomegranates, pears, string cheeses, cheddar cheese slices, french toast, and yogurt. I also eat fruit roll ups and white cheddar popcorn like they are going out of style. I'm lucky if my stomach cooperates long enough with me to eat a tiny bit of chicken during the week.
I was a very, very healthy eater before I got pregnant, I ate lots of varied proteins, veggies, protein packed salads for lunch, etc. I am lucky if I get in one serving of vegetables every few days.
At this point I'm at a loss about what to do. I try to swallow one piece of lettuce and I'm gagging. I stress about how I am going to fail my GD test due to the massive amount of sugar I consume, but I have no idea what else to do. Eating healthy while pregnant is a major EPIC fail for me.
Ugh, sorry I just am venting now.

I could've written this myself!!! I have just started to stomach vegetables. But they have to be mixed in things. I ate a whole bag of rolos over the past week and all I eat is sweets. I have had over 10 boxes of mac and cheese this preg. Fast food at least 2 times a week. Its disgusting. But this week has finally gotten better for me!! I pray it sitcks cause I panic that I am ruining my baby!!
My favorite foods have been, buttered rolls, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cereal and bananas, chocolate, apple slices.. with caramel on occasion, chocolate chip muffins and black and white cookies.
I am so afraid my child will be born twitching from all the sugar!!!
I also was a healthy eater before this pregnancy.

Re: Eating healthy while pregnant??
my dr told me to do whatever I had to do to get through the first tri, and worry about eating healthy once i start feeling better. I've been eating more carbs than normal for sure because they don't make me sick. I don't eat fast food anyway. But yesterday I felt better and ordered a salad for the first time this pregnancy (i'm 10 weeks) I must have ordered ALL the wrong veggies because I had wicked gas pains ALL day.
so i say screw it and just eat what tastes good and doesn't repeat on you!

Re: Eating healthy while pregnant??
I have definitely eaten healthy, with very few cheats. It's just in my nature as a dancer, yoga teacher, etc...and I always knew pregnancy wasn't a time to just sit around and stuff my face. With this mentality and continued exercise, I did manage to only gain 28-ish pounds. Even though I love carbs, I tried hard to eat whole-wheat pastas and whole grains. Instead of ice cream, when I wanted it I got frozen yogurt. When I wanted cookies or "bad foods" I would eat them, but made sure the next day to have something healthier instead. Of course I've eaten larger portions than normal, but I really tried to keep it lean. I hope this helps!

Re: Eating healthy while pregnant??
I really struggle with this. I am disgusted by anything healthy this pregnancy. I am having a really hard time. When I am not pregnant, I am on a constant diet because I am overweight and I do eat very healthy because of that. Add pregnancy to that where I am sick all day and unable to tolerate any vegetables, almost no dairy, and cant stand chicken...its a problem. I am only 10 weeks and I feel like I must have gained like 20 lbs by now. All that makes me feel better are carbs. I do try to stick to whole grains. but it is a real struggle and I just pray I can stick to a good diet once I give birth.

Re: Eating healthy while pregnant??
I am eating healthier but not cutting out the unhealthy stuff! I love candy, cookies, etc, especially during the holiday's. The only thing I've changed so far is drinking a glass of 1% milk every day and making sure to drink a lot of water. I cut out coffee and soda. I also try to buy blueberries, almonds and lentils every week because I read they are pregnancy super foods.

Re: Eating healthy while pregnant??
Ive been a pretty good preggo eater which surprised me. I thought I would crave a diet full of sugar and fat but I havent been too bad!
Every morning I have either cereal or a vitamuffin (or two) and throughout the day I eat maybe 3 small snacks in addition to lunch and dinner. Some of the snacks ive been eating are trail mix, bananas, yogurt, granola bars, sometimes hot chocolate, fruit snacks, pretzels, hummus, and very rarely veggies bc I just dont want them for some reason. My lunch/dinner includes usually some type of turkey or chicken, salad, PB&J sandwich, english muffin pizzas, whole wheat pastas and breads, etc.
Dont get me wrong, I do splurge here and there. When I have a craving I dont run out and grab that pint of ice cream, but I will wait a few days and if I am still craving something, I will treat myself. I have a Cold Stone two doors down from my job and I have indulged only twice so my method has been working lol.

Im not terrible but I havent been great either. I sometimes pig out and at least once a day I have a cookie or piece of candy. Overall, I do eat fruit and veggies everyday and ive upped my calcium intake. I do think i eat way too much sodium though.

Re: Eating healthy while pregnant??
For the first 16-18 weeks with bad MS I was all carbs, no fruits or veggies and the Drs. were fine with that as long as I was eating. Now I eat mainly everything again but I still have nausea so carbs are def my go to. I am hoping that maybe the New Year will bring new food changes for me - I am going to try to cut out as much carbs as possible and the salt (I am a salt addict). Also I didn't have much sweets until 20 weeks so that hasn't been a huge problem, but after the Holidays I am def going to lay off of them.
