You can contact the seller and if they didn't offer insurance, they may refund you. If they offered and you didn't opt for it though, you may not get anything for it. Contact the seller and see what they say.

unless you paid for insurance, i don't think there is anything you can do about it. although if you think it was damaged before the seller shipped it, thats a dfifferent story.

I would contact the seller whether you had insurance or not.
as a seller - I am SO afraid of this happening to me! or worse - that something I ship gets lost

I received something broken once and hadn't gotten insurance on it, it was so cheap I didn't even bother contacting the seller - I just wrote it off.

I shipped something that got broken in the mail. I packaged it well, but it arrived to them in pieces. I offered insurance and they didn't take it. She wanted a refund, but I wouldn't give it. Insurance was offered and she declined.
Check with the USPS, some items are "insured" even if you don't pay for extra insurance I think.
