eBay sellers...why do they bother with a "reserve" price
why not just start the bidding at the price they want?

Re: eBay sellers...why do they bother with a "reserve" price
either they feel that if the starting is too high, they won't get any lookers or it cost more in fees the higher you start the auction

Re: eBay sellers...why do they bother with a "reserve" price
if the reserve price is lets say $100, and the highest bidder bids $90, the seller then has the option of selling it to that bidder anyway.
whereas if it starts at $100, he may not sell it at all.

Re: eBay sellers...why do they bother with a "reserve" price
I have been using reserve prices on everything at the advice of others. Ebay tells you that low starting bids attract more people-- for me, unless it gets to a certain price, I am not willing to part with something-- also, I can always offer the highest bidder a second chance to purchase it at their price.
edited for a typo

Re: eBay sellers...why do they bother with a "reserve" price
Im surprised anyone says it works for them.
When I bid on something and it says reserve not met, I WILL NOT Bid again on principle...Its like Im wasting my time bidding higher and higher till I get to what ever the person was too lazy to list it as price wise in the first place
sorry ebayers...just how I feel

Ditto- once my bid doesn't make it, I avoid the listing entirely

that's what I do- if no one bids I lower it
people think starting the bidding off lower generates bids- but I do pretty well with my system
I sold 110 items in the last 30 days

I do- I got there every day- they all know me- and hate to see me!
I even bought one of those "old lady" carts to help me
but it's just about done- back to reality next week- a 9 to 5 job!

I guess it depends on what it is and how badly I want it.
