EBF and sleeping thru the night HELP!!!

DS is almost 5 months old. At 2-3 months he was sleeping 8-10 hours at night. When I went back to work he stopped. Now he wakes up anywhere from 1-3 times a night to nurse. I know he wants to nurse cause he will NOT go back to sleep for DH, even though we really try. I really do not know what to do anymore. Please help!

It sounds like teething and common, unfortunatly. They go through these phases weather they are ebf or ff. Chat Icon

I went through this at around 3 1/2 months. She was going 6-7 hours straight and then started waking every 2-3 hours Chat Icon Honestly, the only thing that seemed to help was a strict bedtime routine that included a bottle of formula. I'm convinced that my milk supply is just at it's lowest at night and it wasn't cutting it for her anymore. I mean don't get me wrong, she still wakes. 2 nights ago it was at 12 and 4 and last night it was only at 2. But I didn't feed her last night and she went back to sleep until 7. So I know she can do it! I think it becomes habit and maybe they are teething.

Re: EBF and sleeping thru the night HELP!!!

at 5 months and EBF DD, i had had it with waking up, and from all books and stuff, she didnt need those nite time feedings, so i weaned her from nite time nursing....how?? i had a stop watch, and the first few nites i would time how long she actively nursed- after a few nites, i realized she was only nursing for a few minutes at a time... so the following few nite i would only let her nurse for 2 mins and 30 sec...then a few more nites only 2 min, then 1 min 30 sec, then 1 min....by the time she got down to 1 min, i would only go in and pick her up and soothe her (we would just rock together)...and that was it- she was no longer nursed at nite....but now i spent about a month just waking with her so that she didnt feel like i had "abandoned" her....and then at about the 6.5 month mark, i let her CIO (again, this was a gradual thing- i didnt just not go in and that was it)....needless to say, shes been sleeping thru the nite since then (over a year now)- only wakes up during a sickness or something, and sleeps a solid 11-12 hours a nite, with a 2-3 hour nap.... I think I might try the stopwatch technique. He doesn't nurse for that long but he definately seems hungry when he wakes up. It is just so frustrating!
