EBF moms-distractions
DS is almost 5 months and EBF. Lately I can hardy get him to eat because he is so distracted by his surroundings. I literally have to take him in the bedroom and lay him down on the bed to get him to eat because he doesn't have any distractions in there. Please tell me that this is a phase and it will get better. I don't want to be confined to a bed everytime I have to feed him.
Thanks!

Re: EBF moms-distractions
I posted the exact same thing when DD was 4 mos. Unfortunately, I also havea 2.5 yr old so the bed isn't really an option for most of the day feedings. Sadly, at 6 mos we are STILL having the SAME problems. It is SO hard for me to get her to eat for long enough! We have the same problems when I give her a botttle though!
I've tried everything - I'm hopeful maybe someone will post something that helps us both! The only thing that helps sometimes is if while she is nursing I get something that catches her attention to play with that is close to me. A necklace usually works great. However, this only works sometimes. She hears her brother and it is all over.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
ETA: I also wanted to add that for us it did really affect her eating. She was gaining 2lbs a month and once this started just a 1lb.

I am having the same exact problem here. She will stop and pick her head up to smile at me even if I am in the bedroom! I was considering calling the LC to see what they think I should do.

For me, the cover makes it worse. I used to ALWAYS use a cover- now I can only use a blanket to cover what is going on b/c DD NEEDS to see out - she starts thrashing around and swinging and whining to get the cover off of her! She hates it all of a sudden!

This is my biggest concern that he is going to not gain weight and that he is going to be extra cranky because he is hungry!

Re: EBF moms-distractions
DD is 7.5 months and still gets distracted! Its so annoying...and MESSY!!! I get milk everywhere when she unlatches! I pretty much have to feed her in her room with the door closed and NO ONE can enter!!!! If you have other children...this is obviously not an option. I don't think this will get any better because she is so nosey and wants to see everything.

Re: EBF moms-distractions
Hate to tell you - it gets worse. I have such issues when I'm home with Colin b/c he just loves watching Ryan do everything. I have to go in his room, turn on the sound machine, dim the light and nurse him. If Ryan is around and playing nearbly - Colin won't eat. It also helps when I wear a necklace. He holds it as he nurses.
ETS: As frustrating as it is, I don't think he's going hungry. When he's really hungry, he eats. He may snack throughout the day, but then when we get a quiet session he'll eat longer.
