echogenic bowel and fluid in the kidneys
Hi, I just had my anatomy scan and the results were good other than the bowel appearing brighter than it should be, and there being excess fluid in my son's kidneys. The MFM doctor tells me this could be nothing, or could be a soft marker for CF or down syndrome. I had genetic testing done and came back with 1- 10,000 chance of the baby having Down Syndrome. I am wondering if anyone had something similar happen? And what your outcome was? I have to meet with a genetic counselor next week and decide if I want to do an amnio or not.

My son had the soft marker on his bowel too. We went to MFM and my husband and I both had a lot of blood work done. I also had done the Panarama test a few weeks before. I met with a genetic counselor too. I feel like they try to scare you. I decided not to do the amnio since all blood work came back fine. My son was fine.

So happy to hear your son was fine! I am hoping for the same outcome.

echogenic bowel and fluid in the kidneys
My son had an echogenic bowel and spots on his heart at our anatomy scan. We did genetic testing and opted for the amnio. Everything resolved itself around 34 weeks and he was born 100% healthy at 36w 6days.
It was an extremely stressful time so I know exactly what you're feeling and I'm so sorry you have to experience that! If you need to talk I'm here!

Re: echogenic bowel and fluid in the kidneys
DS had fluid in his kidneys, but it went away soon after birth. It's very common with boys, actually. He's 4.5yo now and we never had a problem.

Re: echogenic bowel and fluid in the kidneys
Yes, my DS had fluid on his kidney, as did my DD. My DS also had very elevated risk for spina bifida on the AFP blood test. We had to see a genetic counselor too and they were pushing an amnio. I refused and both my kids were born 100% healthy. I hate these tests in a way. So many false positives. I hope all is well with your LO.
