Eczema - steriod cream
so the peditrician prescribed a steriod cream for DS eczema. i didn't noticed she said "steriod" until we went to the pharmacy to get the cream. i'm a little afraid to use it. the pharmacist suggested we use aquaphor for a few days since the steriod cream is a bit strong. the last few days we only use the aquaphor but his ezcema continue to be pretty bad. it's all over his face and it's red sometimes.
have anyone use the cream before? i'm thinking of using the cream today so DS can be more comfortable.

Re: Eczema - steriod cream
I only used it when he had a huge break out of it otherwise I stayed away from it. It scared me too.
I used something else I just can' think of the name right now. When I get home I will let you know what it was. It worked great.

Did you try hydrocortizone? I also swear by the Aveeno lotion for eczema.

Re: Eczema - steriod cream
The derm gave us Lipocorid for DD. The Dr. said that you need to treat it aggresively and then once it is gone you just keep up with Aquaphor and that is what I do. DD gets the outbreaks from food allergies so if she gets one then I know I ate something or gave her something I shouldn't have. You are only using it until it goes and if you use it twice a day it should be gone by 4 days and then thats it.

If you want to try it first, the Aveeno for eczema worked really well for us.

Re: Eczema - steriod cream
I had to do this with my son - he had bad ezema around his mouth. I tried everything and it never went away. I took him to a dermatologist and she gave me a special cream. It took a few days and it went away. I was hesitah nt too, but after using it and never had a problem with the eczema again I was happy I did.

Re: Eczema - steriod cream
Our ped told us about a steroid-free cream called Sarna - I got it at Walgreens and used that to help alleviate the itching for my son's rash. Here is the link: Sarna Lotion
Maybe you can ask your ped about it.

Re: Eczema - steriod cream
I only use the steroid cream when DD's eczema is really angry.
My cousin in law swears by this stuff -Florasone Cream It's homeopathic, she gets it at whole foods.
i haven't tried it yet, but she says it works better than the steriod cream.

Re: Eczema - steriod cream
I was told never to use steriod cream on the face. This was by a top ped dermatologist in NYC. It thins out the skin. Try aveno baby cream - it works wonders!

Re: Eczema - steriod cream
Same here - I was told to only use the steroid cream as needed because it thins the skin. BUT my DD's eczema is really bad. so I use it on the bad spots and use Eucerin Calming cream and Itch Relief every morning and night. It works well to keep her skin moist and prevents cracking and chapping.
