Effaced vs. Dilation vs. Mucous Plug
When you lose your mucous plug does that mean you are a certain percentage effaced or certain centimeters dialated? Or does it just happen?

In general it does mean that something is happening...but it is not in any way specific.
I never lose my mucus plug..it is simply something that I lose little by little over the course of several weeks so I never really notice it.

I agree with the above. My first PG, I lost the whole thing at once an hour into labor. This time I lost it in bits and pieces over a week...and still had a lot of it left in there when they broke my water at the hospital.

Re: Effaced vs. Dilation vs. Mucous Plug
With my 1st, I walked around 3 cm dilated for weeks and never once lost my mucous plug. It came out during labor.
With my 2nd, I went for my 38 week appt and was completely closed, and 24 hours later lost my mucous plug in one giant glob. Went right into labor.
Basically, it can happen anytime I think.
