EI question
A special education teacher where I work said that Suffolk County pays for the child's expenses until they enter Kindergarten. I was always under the impression that school district picked up the tab when they turned three and/or when the CPSE meetings started (sorry - new to this stuff still).
Anyone know the answer to this? Just wondering because I offered to drive DS to the summer program if they got him in because busing would take a few weeks to arrange (our meeting is July 6th and the summer program starts July 11th). I thought I would be saving the District money by driving him. If Suffolk County is paying, I would like to ask for busing the second half of the summer program.
TIA

Re: EI question
I am assuming Suffolk is the same or similar to Nassau County.
EI covers 0-3 yo. CSPE (3-5 yo) covers from 3 yo. But it could be covered by EI until August (before school year beginnings) if you child turns 3 before end of August AND if you transfer from EI to CPSE. Otherwise, if you do EI but not CSPE it would stop of the actual 3rd birthday CSE (5+)
EI is part of the Department of Health CPSE/CSE is your school district.

Re: EI question
3-5 is held by the school district's CPSE, but the county pays (at least in Suffolk)
We have a county rep at our meetings who is there to approve costs.

The County pays in all cases. EI is by County. CSPE is by SD but you get someone from the County to approve the services.

Re: EI question
Don't worry about saving anyone any money, just do what is best for your DS. If you want or need the bussing, take it, and check with the school to see if you can get the paperwork now, so it will be ready to send in as soon as you get approval. They will provide for bussing as soon as the services are approved and the paperwork is submitted, but I don't think they will set it up so that you get it for the second half only.
If you don't take the bussing, you are entitled to some stipend for your expenses for driving him.
PS - did you change your screen name?

This is basically correct but it really depends on when your child's birthday is that determines the exact "end" of EI. My DD's birthday is October and kept all EI services until 12/31. It was my choice to switch at the birthday or wait. She switched over at the first of the year. We are in Suffolk.

Re: EI question
Thanks so much. I am also in Suffolk. I appreciate all of the valuable feedback.
I did change my screen name from Scheer13 to AidansArmy. We just did the NYC Walk (signed up before we realized there was a LI one - newbies for sure ) and that was our team name.
