I haven't looked, but I can't imagine they don't make coil stoves anymore.

they still sell coil stoves. I'm not a fan of the electric stoves either.

Re: electric stoves? dumb question.
I have a coil electric stove. I hate it. I had gas my whole life too. It's not the lack of coils that's the problem; it's the fact that it's electric. It just doesn't heat evenly or something.
Our new house will only support an electric stove too, but I can't wait until we move and I can buy a new, non-coil stove. Cleaning around the coils is a pain in the butt.

They have the flat top electric and then also induction stoves.
It takes a while to figure out how to cook on electric because you can't control the heat like you can on gas. A good set of pans will help with the heat distribution too.

Yes, my mom told me i need flat bottom pots and pans, which i do have (thank god, one less item to have to purchase in the new home).
i need an above the range microwave and fridge. i figured i'd get a new stove too, but now, hearing that everyone hates electric, i wonder if i should bother right now. i wonder if gas will ever get here in this neighborhood soon, then, i'd be soooo happy!!
coil stoves, that's what i have to search for.
thanks ladies!

Re: electric stoves? dumb question.
One word: INDUCTION! the heat response is better than gas.
Downside is that you need to make sure your pots & pans are ferrous (if a magnet sticks to the bottom, they're ferrous.)
