electrolysis/laser

i just started electrolysis on my lip and it makes me break out a bit. each spot got a little white head and it took about 3 days to go away.

so my question is:

would laser be better?

anyone know which one lasts longer? is more effective with less treatments?

or, is there a way to avoid the breakouts from electrolysis?

Laser would be better if you're only looking to avoid the breakout problem, but you're not going to get the same results. Electrolysis is currently the only actual permanent hair removal process (laser hair removal can only claim permanent hair "reduction").

I've done both... and one of the girls at the laser place admitted to me that she and some other employees actually also go for electrolysis for the areas with hair that they need gone completely. I think that speaks volumes.

To reduce electrolysis breakouts, make sure you keep your skin clean before & after your treatment, use a hot compress on the area afterwards, and treat it with hydrocortisone cream. It might not eliminate the breakout completely (it's hit or miss for me, sometimes I get them, sometimes I don't), but it could help. And IMO, I don't mind putting up with a couple blemishes for a few days because I know for a fact those hairs aren't coming back ever.

oh that's good to know because I am considering this and my derm does laser. And I just thought of a spin-off question....

i'm finding that laser is giving me better results.

i tried electrolysis years ago, and nothing changed. i just started laser on the same area, and i've already seen a difference... after only one session.

granted, i had a temporary sede effect of a bit of a rash/breakout. took a few days to clear, but i'm loving the results.

oh, i'm having my chin done
