elem. teachers - come in! question about school supplies
Do you request name brands? does it make a difference if a child has no-name crayons vs crayola?
I was looking at last year's supply list on the school's website to get an idea....lots of Crayola and Elmer's listed.
Do you think they just use those terms to describe items or do they really need name brands for some reason?
for example:
2 boxes of Crayola Crayons (24 count)
2 boxes of Crayola fine line washable markers
thanks

Crayola crayons are far superior to other brands. They last longer, are more vibrant, less smudgy, and overall just the very best crayons out there!
The only specific brand I ask for is Crayola because I believe they are the best.

I'm not an elementary teacher but I use the supplies. Definitely for crayons and glue it makes a difference! But I don't request those specific things!

I am an elementary school teacher and we only ask brand names for certain things- Crayola definitely one of them. The difference is major. Glue as well!

Crayola rocks! Some of the other brands don't color as nicely-it's like coloring with candles.

Same with glue elmers or avery. How come the purple glue sticks are not good. Everyplace I went only had the Elmers purple. I had to go to office max to find white

elem. teachers - come in! question about school supplies
I teach high school and do not require any specific brand name supplies, but I will say they are far superior.

I agree with the others that Crayola is far superior. They are only .50 a box right now at most places for 24 crayons. Also, a lot of the cheapo and character pencils have horrible erasers that completely smudge. So I try to buy the middle of the road kind of pencils, and those seem to work well.

I do ask for specific glue sticks actually. Avery keeps paper together. The staples brand does not. The kids come up to me and ask if they can reglue things all the time. Buying anything other is just a waste of money, imo.
crayola is the best crayon. They do last longer and the colors are consistent.

Re: elem. teachers - come in! question about school supplies
When I was allowed to I always requested Crayola crayons and Fiskars scissors. They are so much better than the other brands.
My school district now makes every class in each grade have a uniform, nonspecific supply list. I don't even use some of the stuff on the list, but the parents are still required to purchase everything and send it in.

Fiskar was another brand I saw on list.
Thanks for the replies! I typically buy crayola but lately I buy the target brand for crayons because we go through crayons so quick around here. Thanks for the input !
