Elementary Teachers-Open House
What activities do you do with your students to prepare the room for open house?
Also, what do you do for the parents when they are there? So that it is fun, as well as informative for them?
One more...are there any websites that you use to come up with your ideas? Thanks!

Re: Elementary Teachers-Open House
When we had open house in my school, we hung up current work on the bulletin boards and taught like the parents weren't there. We just went on with our regular routine.

Re: Elementary Teachers-Open House
since my Meet the Teacher Night is 9/19, I dont have time to do much. I have kids write letters welcoming their parents to the school. The kids actually ask them to write back and parents do. The kids get very excited the next morning to see what their parents wrote.. i also have them sign up for a parent conference time and sign up to be class parents, helpers etc...
I compile a little packet explaining my curriculum and goals for the year.. other than that, thats it.. nothing fancy...

Re: Elementary Teachers-Open House
I go over routines and curriculum. I give each parent a folder w outline of what I am discussing. I also include in folder articles that might be of interest. (You also present this info on P.P. if you have screen.) I have each student write a letter to his/her parent so that the parent can write back. ( I get pretty good turn out and write back to any student whose parent is a no show.)Kids also make self-portraits with "Who am I?" riddles. The parents try to identify their kids and it is always fun. HTH

Re: Elementary Teachers-Open House
Are you talking about back to school night, when you meet with the parents or a regular open house, where anyone can come in and see the school. That's what I was referring to...

Re: Elementary Teachers-Open House
My Open house is soon! So, I just try to get a quick bulletin board up. I have my students write a note to their parents on dry erase boards, and then the parents write back that night. While the parents are in that night, I have them sign up for parent teacher conferences and I basically speak the entire time. It is very informative, but a bit boring. I have too much to cover in short period of time...so I don't have a choice!

Same here. Mine is 9/12 so I really have little time. The kids will write a shirt letter to their parents and at open house I give the parents a packet abut what goes on throughout the year and I go over the curriculum and routines.

Re: Elementary Teachers-Open House
We have 2 half hour sessions.
At my school last year we just did a grade level presentation.... so I have no clue what I'm doing this year. Some sort of PowerPoint presentation.
I don't know what I'm even going to have time to prepare... It's next Tuesday, the 12th!

Re: Elementary Teachers-Open House
Our back to school night is two hours, broken into two sessions. I have the students write letters to their parents, welcoming them to the room. They also make all about me posters which I hang on lines across the room. I try to put up as much work as I can, but since it is so early, I might not have the chance. I will also try to make a pamphlet with some information about the class.

Re: Elementary Teachers-Open House
Our back to school night is 1/2 hour per grade (3-5) On the first day of school I send home a parent letter and packet that explains all that we do in our class. On that night, I pretty much go over that packet, talk about curriculum, testing, etc. I have the kids write letters to their parents telling them what to look at in the classroom. I try to have all of my bulletin boards covered with student work by then.
