Elementary Teaching Online Degree?
Can you actually get a job in NY with an online teaching degree? Im currently a SAHM with our first - and i know there are no jobs now in teaching, but i want to slowly go back and plan to graduate in 10 yrs or so - when we're done having kids and theyre all in school. DH works 6 days a week and until 8ish so i can't really go at night either. Anyone actually have or know of someone with an online teaching degree who got a job?

i doubt my administrators would consider a candidate with a degree from a strictly online university.
many universities offer many online classes within a program that would be legit, although I don't specifically know about any personally.

Your masters yes, but if you are seeking an initial certification, no.

I would think that with the current educational climate you would find it difficult to obtain a job with an online bachelor's degree. Not impossible, but difficult.

Hmm I'd imagine it would be difficult/impossible to do it entirely online. I'd think there would be some sort of observation/student teaching requirement to fulfill.
I'd also watch with the 10 years...I do know of some programs that require you to finish the degree in a specified amount of time.

I was thinking this also. With NY, they tend to change up the certifications every so often. When I went for my degree, if I didn't finish by the end of the year I graduated, certs would be different and I would have had to do some things over to meet the new requirements.

Elementary Teaching Online Degree?
my wife is a teacher, has a teaching degree and masters from a brick and morter school on LI. she found it difficult to get a privite school job before the downturn, found it impossible to get a public school job then too. Now with the economy couldn't find anything that is a real "teacher" job.
if she has trouble getting a job, I don't see how someone with an online degree will be in the same or better standing.
