elevated white blood cell count
My Dr's office called and she wants me to come back to draw more blood. My WBC were elevated. Kind of freaking. Anyone deal with this? What causes it?

I know it seems alarming, but unless you have an on going medical condition I would not be too concerned. You might have a mild infection or inflammation. They should just repeat the blood work bc it can also be LAB error.
Feel good

Did you exercise before you had your blood drawn?

Thank you. I don't have any medical condition. I have been feeling crappy lately. Really bad lower back pain and kidney pain. I'm going for an ultrasound next week. Dr doesn't think they are kidney stones though. I've had them 3 times and it's not as severe, just chronic pain. Ugh. Just keep thinking the worst

Yes, even mild infections can cause elevated WBC.

I feel your pain, literally. I have a Hx of kidney stones and can pass up to 3 a year. You might have a small UTI if a stone is stuck and you have a back flow of urine. Try not to panic, drink LOTS of water.

Any infection can cause elevated white blood cell counts. And if you've been experiencing that pain, I would venture to guess you are battling a kidney/upper uti.

Re: elevated white blood cell count
I had this happen once, I was FREAKING out. I went once, had blown drawn, elevated white blood cell ct, went back had it redrawn, SAME thing. They mentioned sending me to Hematology/Oncology specialist, FREAKED the hell out. Went one more time, had it drawn, it came back TOTALLY fine. Must have been fighting something and it elevated my levels. I feel your pain, I was freaking the fluck out, but third times a charm and it came back totally fine.

Normally just showing an infection. I had a VERY low count once and I had a viral infection. Had to just sit and do nothing and drink as many liquids as possible for a few days. Good luck!

Re: elevated white blood cell count
They found this in my DS when they drew his blood (we took him to a GI for some issues). Of course I was flipping out and thought the worst (Google did not help). The doctor said it could have been my DS battling an infection or virus. We retested his blood about a month or two later and the levels went back to normal.

Re: elevated white blood cell count
I have a medical condition that causes me to create too many white blood cells. It's not considered serious but every time I go to a new doctor I have to tell them otherwise I will get a call back. At Stony Brook Hospital, any doctor can pull up a graph that tracks your numbers any time they were tested by a Stony Brook doctor. I go to a hematologist who just makes sure that my levels are not too high compared to what they have always been.
