he is 62, and just had his first child so selfish
What an awful thing to say!!!
Anyone can die at any time. Doesn't matter how old someone is. its not like he is 95!
I guess my kids will be doomed since DH is not in his 20s or 30s
oh is your DH 62?!?!?! my parents aren't even in their 60's and they have 3 grandchildren 62 is a senior citizen!
Good for your parents, but some people wait until they're older to have kids. What's the big deal? I'm not saying I would want to have kids that late in life but really who cares? If this is what makes them happy, good for them

Re: Elton John is a DAD!
But I can hardly keep up with my kids - I cant imagine doing it at more than double my age I'm sure they'll have more than enough people hired who will keep up with the kid I might get flamed by some , but honestly when I read the story it made me Isn't E J an alcoholic and a drug addict and a bit nuts? (I've read heard some stories) how was he able to adopt? But I guess if you have money you can buy anything and anybody .... I'm sure the kid will have a great life , but I'm just saying...

I'm going to be 43 this year. There is a big difference between having a child late & having one in your 60s. Obviously their child will have a different family dynamic than most with a parent like Elton John, but throwing in an aging parent...well I agree.
It is selfish. But having children generally is a selfish thing to begin with, no? I had children for a thousand selfish reasons. It's only after I had them that I become selfless.

It's been pretty well documented that Elton John is a recovering alcoholic. He's 20 years sober. And yes, he's flamboyant, but I think it's going a little to far to call him "nuts." And the baby was not adopted - they used a surrogate, so I would think that either he or his partner provided the sperm for the fertilized egg.
That being said, though, it wasn't too long ago that we were all jumping down Kelly Preston & John Travolta's throats for having a baby in their late 40's. I'm happy that Elton and his partner have all this love to give and want to share their life with a child, but 48 and 62 seems pretty ambitious to raise a newborn. Good luck to them in any case.

I agree with this entirely. No matter what age you have a kid, it's because you want a kid. You become selfless once the child it here (well, hopefully you do).
