Re: Embarrasing question
OHH, that sounds painful. I haven't, but a friend did. Unfortunately she had to have it removed. She is feeling wonderful now.

Re: Embarrasing question
My Dad had to have surgery to have his removed and I thought I would too.
I have suffered with them coming and going for about 7 years now. I have used prep H cream, the cooling pads (keep them in the fridge) - the suppositories (keep them in the fridge too).
But I know I will probably have to have surgery too.
Feel better - they really are a pain in the azz

Re: Embarrasing question
I don't even want to answer this for you but I have to. I had 3 (yes all three hemorrhoid pads were thrombosed) at 9 months pregnant. I had to go get surgery (in-office) 4 days before I delivered DS and honestly, c-section recovery was nothing compared to this. I don't want to scare you but know what you're getting into. They will not go away, you have to get this done. It is horrendous BUT the next day I was changing the sheets on my bed without help (which given your current condition I'm sure you couldn't imagine right now).
Good luck

Re: Embarrasing question
DH almost needed surgery....he found that baths with epsom salt REALLY helped. Every night he'd take a good soak along with Prescription cream

Re: Embarrasing question
I haven't been through that. I did have an awful fissure after DD which was agonizing and now I have an awful hemorrhoid. I don't know how bad it is, I go to the doctor tomorrow. It is painful though, not an itchy nuisance like other people describe.
Sorry you have to deal with that.

Er, I purposely left that part out
No, it was a local Needle in the ... ahem ... affected area. Although, look into that. My anaesthesiologist for the cesarean was SHOCKED that I wasn't given anything more than that so maybe I couldn't b/c of the pregnancy.

How do you know they are thrombosed?

How do you know they are thrombosed?
The OB diagnosed them during my internal (well, she wouldn't do the internal but you know what i mean). I was in so much pain that I could not sit or walk. I literally had to work from home the last 2 weeks of pregnancy because I cold do nothing but lay on my side.
That was with all three, though.
ETA: Thrombosed literally means filled with blood so if they're outside, large and dense and are causing you severe pain, they may be thrombosed. The problem is usually they're so painful that you can't figure out quite how large or dense they are since someone sneezing 15 feet away makes them hurt.

Re: Embarrasing question
I have had several of them. Thrombosed means you have a blood clot in it. Those clots do not dislodge though so don't worry about it. But they hurt so bad it's almost unbearable.
The surgeon told me they can go away on their own but after several weeks. Usually 3 weeks. But I could never wait. I was in such pain.
You can do a "quick" fix as an outpatient procedure.
You need to go to a colon/rectal surgeon.
I had it done 3 times so far that needed the procedure. Several more when I could not do it due to my pregnancy or I just had my son. Without freaking you out or being too graphic, they just "cut" it open to release the pressure. It bleeds a lot. And will a bit for 1 week.
The actual surgery is much more involved. You are completely under. Then you have a recovery time.
I have had MAJOR problems with them when I was PG. I got 2 thrombosed one during the pregnancy and 4 thrombosed one came out 2 days before I delivered my son. I was in so much pain they had a colon surgeon come see me while in the recovery room from my c-section.
Doing the surgery is only good if you are done with kids. I wanted to do the surgery after DS but the surgeon told me they would come back if I was PG again so most likely I have to wait to do it.
You have to make sure you do NOT strain while going to the bathroom. Make sure you do not get constipated and if you do get Colace. It does not make you go it makes it a bit easier.
FM if you need more info.
