Emblem/Oxford? Which to choose?
Can anyone recommend a good family doctor in the Holbrook area? My insurance will be changing completely come November and I'm at a loss.
Also, I will have 2 options to choose from. Emblem Comprehealth or United health Care Oxford. I've heard not good things about Emblem and none of my current Drs participate, but it's super cheap.
Anyone have any experience with either, advice or opinions? TIA!

Can't rec anyone in that location, however, my company recently changed over to Emblem from Oxford, and I had the same concerns as you.
So far, so good though. All my doctors have taken it and before I have needed to proceed with anyone new, I have just called their customer service to find out who is covered. They always email me a list of providers within certain mileage radius that I specify I am willing to drive.
I wish it was cheap though. My employer doesn't cover much in terms of the family plan!

Emblem/Oxford? Which to choose?
Which Oxford plan? Freedom or Liberty. It makes a big difference.. Most doctors accept the freedom policy but it's more difficult to find providers in the Liberty network. The Liberty network also requires referrals.
The emblem health is going to be either Hip or GHI also, it's sponsored by one, depending on the plan. Both are ok. In all honesty I think my opinion would be Oxford, especially if it's the freedom network. If its liberty network there probably wont be too much of a difference.

Re: Emblem/Oxford? Which to choose?
I would go through Oxford. I have Emblem Health GHI now, but a higher up plan. It's great for kids, but can get expensive for adults (I owe so much after having a baby). Anyway, the CompreHealth's list of doctors is sooo small, it wasn't worth it to us to save a bit.

Supercheap can bite you in the long run. My opinion, go with Oxford. My parents had Oxford Liberty, then switched over to Oxford Medicare advantage. I can't say anything bad about Oxford.

Emblem/Oxford? Which to choose?
My former company switched from Oxford to Emblem. I had nothing but issues with Emblem, I had zero issues with Oxford.
Compare the coverages, the copay amounts, coinsurance, deductibles etc and go with the one that covers more. Since you say the Emblem plan is "supercheap" I am thinking it covers much less than Oxford.

Re: Emblem/Oxford? Which to choose?
I know nothing about Emblem but I have Oxford Liberty now. We pay for it ourselves and it was the least expensive with best benefits for us.
I hate it mostly. The premiums and co-pays go up significantly every year. They cover basics of almost everything but once it gets complicated, the paperwork, referrals, nurse case managers, etc, etc, etc gets so annoying.
I had Oxford Freedom a while back and it was fantastic. So if you have a choice, go with Freedom.

Re: Emblem/Oxford? Which to choose?
I was scared when we got emblem this past year but we had no choice. Mine is through GHI but it is a high deducttible plan. So far they have paid everything no problems. Every doctor we have wanted to see has taken it. My allergist told me that most of the NSUH/LIJ doctors have emblemhealth and many take it. We don't have any referrals. For us the only down side is that out of network has a very high deductible. I have been told by offices that the GHI one is pretty good the HIP is horrible.
As to which one you go with I would pick the one that doesn't require referrals. If tge emblem plan is cheaper I would go with oxford. Usually the cheaper plan is not as good.

It's the Emblem Comprehealth plan. The reason why it's so cheap is bc it's just for me. DD is under child health plus and DH has his own through wrk. It was would have been so much money to add DD and myself to his plan so it's cheaper for us to have our own. If I choose the Emblem I have to find all new dr. And the Oxford plan does not Cover any dr through Stonybrook. I'm concerned abt that bc when I was pg with DD I was high risk and saw Stonybrook drs. Will most likely be high risk with the next. Also the Oxford has no prescription plan as the Emblem does.

They actually cover the same and the copays are the same. Only difference is emblem has prescription and Oxford does not. And I believe one covers MRI and the other does not.

We JUST switched to emblem a few months ago, the HIP one. HORRIBLE. Make sure your primRy dr is NOT part of HEALTHCARE PARTNERS GROUP. Because every dr you see there after, needs to be part of this group too, otherwise Emblem WILL NOT pay for certain things. You will need PRIOR APPROVAL from healthcare partners, some approvals 60 days in advance. My primary was part of HCP and the chick at emblem told me it would be "beneficial to me to switch primarys". I did, and havent had an issue yet. I also havent used it at the ped for ds yet either. Good luck.
