Emerson Avery's Birth Story - 9/19/08
Emerson's birth story is pretty short and sweet.
I was scheduled for a C-section at 10am on Friday, September 19th because they were concerned about the baby's size. At the last sonogram a few days before she was measuring at 9lbs9oz and my OB felt it was safer to have a C-section than to try and deliver her vaginally because of my gestational diabetes. He was afraid there was a chance of her getting stuck in the birth canal due to the size and the fact that babies born to mothers with GD tend to have broader shoulders. I was suppose to be at the hospital at 8:30am to get prepped for the surgery.
At about 2:00am that morning I got up to let the dog outside and as I was about to get back into bed I felt a warm gush.........my water broke!!!  I expected that after the gush it would settle into a trickle or be done but that was not the case at all. I was "gushing" non-stop from the moment my water broke all the way up until they had me on the table for the C-section. It was crazy!! My DH called the OB right away and he told me to come right to the hospital. He asked if I was having contractions but at that point I was just feeling crampy.
Within about 15min. of my water breaking I started contracting. They were anywhere from 5-8min. apart. By the time I got to the hospital and got settled they were about 3min. apart. They hooked me up to the monitors and then within an hour or so of getting to the hospital I was taken into the OR to be prepped for surgery. As soon as I was ready to go my DH was brought into the OR with me and at 5:42am Emerson Avery was born!!  She weighed in at only 8lbs8oz (basically a pound less then they anticipated) and 20 1/4 inches long. She was absolutely beautiful!!!
I stayed in the hospital 3 nights and then was discharged, I was SO ready to go home by then. They recovery kind of stinks and I was in a lot of pain in the beginning but each day is a little easier. But every time I look at her little face I realize it was all worth it!! She is the love of my life!!!!
