empty room advice

we are having a big party at the end of the month. My sofas were supposed to be in for it. But of course, with my luck, they won't be here. So now i basically i'll have a big room with no furniture in ti, except for an old ikea sofa. My tv and other sofaas are in another room. any ideas on how to make it look more homey?

Re: empty room advice

What about a nice slipcover for the old sofa? I have seen them really cheap in walmart. My friend bought one & it looks really nice actually.

Re: empty room advice

What type of party is it? Are the other, furnished, rooms conducive to entertaining? If so, I'd leave the large room open and do something fun with it. Either throw up a disco ball and make it a dance floor Chat Icon or set up tables for the food (not as fun) or set it up as a game room...

Re: empty room advice

maybe set up the food in there- or rent tables and chairs

it will be better then having to worry about people spilling on you new couch!

Re: empty room advice

Borrow or get folding chairs to fill up the room and give people a place to sit, then borrow or buy big tables to set out all the food on like a buffet, cover them with a nice tablecloth, put out candles, it will be intimate and useful

Re: empty room advice

thanks everyone.
thank god for ikea, they do sell a slipcover for my sofa that semi matches the room. My nice curtains should be here by then so i'll have them up. the food will be set up in the kitchen, but i guess i'll put some folding chairs in there for people to sit, maybe some appetizers or somethign...
