Endometriosis Question

I've been wondering lately after talking to people who had IF, and some of them mentioned endometriosis.

How do you know or suspect you may have it? Would it be obvious?

How do they test for it? Would it show up in an HSG or Sono?

Thanks in advance.... just another avenue I want to explore while trying to stay positive Chat Icon

Re: Endometriosis Question

Endo is very tricky. My mom had it very bad (they told her she'd never have any more kids after me, then my sis showed up 9 years later:lol). It is usually passed down through genetics. Painful periods can be a sign.

My RE never saw signs of it on a sono, but to completely rule it out I had to have a laparoscopy. I did, and he said I had it very mild and he scraped it out, but that was not the reason I wasn't getting pregnant.

Re: Endometriosis Question

I had gone for a sonogram and they noticed a large cyst on my ovary that was consistent with endo. I had a lap done in April and that it where it was confirmed. I had all of the classic endo symptoms since I was 18 years old and all of my previous gynos would brush me off when I complained of extreme pain. Its such a tricky condition because it can only be diagnosed through surgery and I guess in my case the doctors didn't think my symptoms were severe enough to do it.

Re: Endometriosis Question

i have endo and it was only confirmed after having a lap. I had the lap because my ob had found a huge cyst on my left ovary that needed to be removed. The cyst was found by doing a sonogram but other than the cyst i have always had very painful cramps, heavy bleeding during AF and AF lasted almost a week. But i never knew all of that was abnormal...i just thought it was normal!

same here...my cyst was the first sign to my RE that i had it.

my whole life i had awful, heavy and crampy periods and unexplained spotting starting about 5dpo..i also had diharrea and major bloat during my cycles, but i always brushed it off to being normal for me.

here are the official symptoms that can signal endo:

Painful periods (dysmenorrhea). Pelvic pain and cramping may begin before and extend several days into your period and may include lower back and abdominal pain.

Pain with intercourse. Pain during or after sex is common with endometriosis.

Pain with bowel movements or urination. You're most likely to experience these symptoms during your period.

Excessive bleeding. You may experience occasional heavy periods (menorrhagia) or bleeding between periods (menometrorrhagia).

Infertility. Endometriosis is first diagnosed in some women who are seeking treatment for infertility.

Other symptoms. You may also experience fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, bloating or nausea, especially during menstrual periods

Re: Endometriosis Question

Thanks everyone! I'll be a pItA and ask Dr. one more time if he suspects it, but I realized I don't have any of the symptoms. I was just curious because I don't ever remember being tested for it. Chat Icon
