Re: Energy Saving Light Bulbs
I don't use these flourescent light bulbs either. I don't like how they look and the idea of them cotaining mercury doesn't sit well with me.
LOL listen at 1:45 for what you have to do if you break one of these energy saving bulbs.

Re: Energy Saving Light Bulbs
I only use these bulbs outside. I have not watched the video but from your comments, I can get the gist of what they are saying . Until they are 100%, I will not use them around my family (indoors). I figure we don't sit or stand under the outdoor lights enough for there to be an issue!

Re: Energy Saving Light Bulbs
I was going to use these outside, but my outside lights are motion with dimming built in.
So my non energy efficient lights I have outside run at energy efficient levels anyways for most of the night.

It says that the energy efficient light bulbs contain mercury, are all made in China and if you break it you need to follow the hazmat regime on the package to clean the biohazard.

I had no idea there was mercury in them! I have them in my lamps. But i'm going to have to get rid of them. Where are these recycling plants?

Your town probably has one, you can call and find out. If a bulb breaks (which come on, is really a rarity), open the windows, use cardboard to sweep up the glass and then use a wet paper towel to wipe up what is left. When the bulbs go out, bring them to be recycled. And the fact with this is that these bulbs will last for many, many years, and as they become more mainstream (as they are), there will be more and more places to dispose of them. I know Ikea has bins you can dispose of them in, I am sure other stores will start to follow suit.
