Engineer is coming tonight
Whoops! Hit post too soon!
Ok - we have the engineer coming in tonight - what types of things should we ask him? I am sure our fantastic, amazing REA knows what to ask and what to look for, but is there anything that you would recommend asking?

Re: Engineer is coming tonight
YAH!!!!!!!!! Congrats. I hope everything goes well
We didn't ask the engineer anything. We just let him do his job and then after his findings asked him questions about repairs etc.

Re: Engineer is coming tonight
Most engineers have a long page report they need to fill out as they walk around the house.
Our engineer arrived to the house before the REA, and told us that if he saw anything to be concerned about, he would pull us aside after the inspection out of reach of the REA to talk to us.
Luckily, everything was sound our house.
But ?'s to ask: Is the electric up to code, has it been upgraded, are all switches for the electric labeled, is there any insect damage that is noticeable (termites, etc), how old is the furnance, how much longer do you think it will last, if an oil home, ask how big the tank is and whether it's in good shape, etc.
Good luck!

Ask about the roof and siding. You definately want to know how old they are.

It's all brick - should that make a difference?

If something is wrong with the brick he will tell you. I wouldn't worry. A good engineer will put everything you need in the report
