English Bulldog food question.....new question at bottom
We just rescued a english bulldog puppy - they gave us health extensions food to go home with and I am happy with it - then I was told royal canine is great fodd bulldogs cause it helps with their skin, since they have skin issues plus the morsels are easier to pick up since their nose and top teeth are pushed.
Does anyone have experience with either food and which is best ? I do know with the health extensions puppy food the morsels are tiny he inhales them - doesn't chew not sure if that is because he can't bite them ?

************* This dog does not chew his food, inhales it , is that normal? My shih tzu chews his food. So I got larger morsels thinking he would have to chew it , nope goes right down - if that is the case, I will feel better going to the smaller kibble so he doesn't choke !!

Re: English Bulldog food question.....
check the website dogfoodadvisor.com---great info on there!
just a general rule with food-always make sure the first few ingredients are a meat like chicken, turkey, duck, etc. not a filler.
Smaller sized kibble is best for EBD because of their smaller throats. And each bulldog will react differently to different foods so definitely take advice as to which foods are good in general but what works for one EBD might not work for another!
How old is the pup and post a pic of that cutie!! What rescue?

Bulldogs are prone to allergies so I would recommend trying a grain free diet - definitely look at www.dogfoodadvisor.com. It is a good website that goes over different dog food ingredients. You may want to try a grain free food such as Nature's Variety Instinct (I feed this to my dog). There are many good brands out there - others include Blue Buffalo 'Wilderness', Wellness 'Core', Merrick and Evangers. - Elizabeth

You can also buy a bowl that has an insert in the center to slow down his eating, put a small bowl upside down in the center or try mixing some water into the dry food. Congrats on your new puppy!

Re: English Bulldog food question.....new question at bottom
When would the allergies come out? He has been on health extension for about 2 months or so?
We did buy the slow feeder, still gobbles it - we bought the one that it looks like the bowl is in the middle, they have another were the bowl is divided into 4 parts, maybe that would work better.
Thanks !!

It can take 4-6 wks for you to notice an allergy, but sometime it happens right away. If he has been on the Health Extension for 2 months he is probably fine with the ingredients. Bulldogs can also have allergies to pollen, grass, trees - so sometimes you will notice it in the spring / summer / fall.
I would try the other bowl if the one you have isn't working ... sometimes it is trial & error!
