Enjoy the heat while you can
Been shopping around for a new oil burner, service contract and oil contract.
Prices range from 4.49 to 4.88, or I can lock in for a year with a max of 5.33. 5.33 ?!?!?!?
Enjoy the natural heat, oil users. You're going to be shivering in January.

Re: Enjoy the heat while you can
I know it's insane!!!! I just sent a letter to my oil company to stop deliveries to our house.
I am converting from Oil to Gas, but in the meantime if I need a delivery I will just do COD and shop around.
I really don't know how we survive sometimes every month with the prices of everything

Re: Enjoy the heat while you can
To the people that converted to gas, was the installation difficult (running of the pipes?)
I am on a slab and I have laminate interlocking floor throughout my first floor.
It would be next to impossible to run pipes through the slab because you can't take the floor up without taking it ALL up.
Did they have to punch a bunch of holes in your house to do this? My fear of converting to gas isn't the cost, it's more like the hassle of the install.

You most likely will need to run the line in your ceiling.

We have a Hi-Ranch and they ran our pipes in the ceiling to get to the 2nd floor for our stove. Otherwise the piping goes direct to the boiler. We have baseboard heater though, so that might make a difference from house to house. I believe if you don't have to hook up a stove, then there is now running of pipes throughout the house. The gas pipes go to the new boiler and then the heating works the same way if you have baseboard heating. I hope that helps!

I would call Keyspan directly first. You can get a quote from them and then you can also get quotes from other plumbers and then it gets inspected by the town or Keyspan before they will turn on the gas. GL!

Re: Enjoy the heat while you can
I just filled out the form on Keyspan's website to have somebody contact me.
I'll set up an appointment since I am curious as to what this will cost. Thanks.

Re: Enjoy the heat while you can
If you want to talk to someone about converting to gas, you can call 1-800-427-2001.
I just called to get information on our situation. Unfortunately, on our block we're too far away from a main line and we'd need to pay 7K just to get the line dug and brought to our property.
If I could get the neighbors to do it too, then we could split the cost; but that would mean I would have to talk to them.
I didn't even think about how they would get it into the house. You're right - installation may be too much of a bear to make it worthwhile.

We converted to gas last summer and Keyspan's quote was higher than a private contractor. We used Burner King because they gave the best price.
