Equinox Gym? Anyone Belong? Any other gyms that are comparable
I am debating about joining a gym, and i am so not a gym person, i know i can do the trial, and see if its for me or not, but does anyone go to Equinox? Specifically the one in Woodbury? If so how do you like it? Are you motivated? do you go often? Likes and dislikes?
If anyone has a gym they love please post about that one as well!
The last time i joined a gym was about 9 years ago lucille roberts in carle place and it was awful! I never went back and wasted a 2 year membership

i go to equinox but in the city. I had a NYSC membership and equinox is cleaner, nicer, and I can actually get into the spin classes. it's more $$$ but it's worth it b/c the nysc by me is gross and a total pick up spot, and always packed

Re: Equinox Gym? Anyone Belong? Any other gyms that are comparable
I belonged to Equinox for a few years, I had the universal membership so I used a lot of the different gyms in the city and out here. I left 2 years ago because while it was very nice, I just couldnt justify the cost anymore. DH actually still goes to the one in Woodbury, and he thinks it has gone downhill recently, but supposedly they are redoing it. I personally didnt love the Woodbury location, I much preferred some of the other ones. FM me if you have questions.
FYI, they are also opening another high-end gym in Syosset in a few months, which I believe is going to give that Equinox a run for their money. Its called Lifetime Fitness. I think the promotional price is a little less than Equinox.

Really, not until winter of 2011? For some reason I thought they were supposed to be open by the end of the year.

I belonged to the one in Woodbury when I lived there in 2004 - 2005. DH and I loved it.

Re: Equinox Gym? Anyone Belong? Any other gyms that are comparable
I have an all access membership at Equinox. Pricey, but I've tried a bunch of others - NYSC, Synergy, LA Fitness, etc in the hopes of finding something as good for less money. I was unsuccessful.
While the awesome classes and amenities like the bath products and towels are the same throughout the brand, I will say that some are much nicer than others. I agree with the above poster re: Woodbury gym, but they're promoting a reno and have fabrics and floor samples out so people can see. On the flip side, 76th and Amsterdam and 74th and 2nd are both like works of art!! One has a steam room that is so big that they have furniture in there!
I would say give Equinox a shot. If you sound unsure when you meet with them, they'll give you a month for free as an incentive.
ETA: You can also book a spin bike online which is one of my favorite features.

OMG me too!!! i almost lost it when she showed me this feature. that was my BIGGEST gripe with NYSC to the point where I hated them so much I'd get all anxious about it. i LOVE the book a bike feature at equinox

ITA. those eucalyptus towels put me over the edge. when i first joined there was fresh fruit in a water cooler in the locker room by the spa, but I haven't seen that since then...
