It's a state of mind that many have.

Re: Era of Entitlement
Never - we will continue to encounter it on a daily basis.
Just last night I patiently waited for someone to back out of a parking space and as soon as they left I started to proceed and some guy felt he was entitled to it so he just came around me and took it.
I can't let it bother me anymore. It is what it is.

Re: Era of Entitlement
Sadly, no. Despite my being an eternal optimist, I just see this too much to think it's going to end any time soon. I'm afraid of what it might take for that to actually happen.

Re: Era of Entitlement
Nope!
I do think that as we become more aware of it, we need to re-examine the way we raise our children. Giving in to every whim, little or no reprocussions to bad behaviour, no responsibility whatsoever.
One of my friends is in HR. She told me that some parents are actually handing in their children's resume's and making appointments for interviews. They even call in sick for them.
Given, I don't have any children - yet.

No ... and I think it's only started. I believe it will continue to get worse.

It's soo true, when I worked for a college parents were MAKING the resume for them On a different note, I find society pretty sad right now. Many people feel entitled to something, saying it is thier right...but their right is only possible by stomping on someone else's right and people seem to be ok with the stepping. I can't stop it I can't stand it either though

Re: Era of Entitlement
well.. considering i work in a school and most of the kids are spoiled and don't know how to handle not getting what they want... i would say its going to continue for a LONG time! i think the PP was right- we need to change the way we raise our kids and really teach them that they won't always get everything they want, and that thats ok- they'll survive. i think too many parents are giving in to their kids too much (with behavior as well as monetary things), so its only perpetuating the whole entitlement thing...

I don't know that its just the young, honestly. Even older people sometimes feel entitled. Is it my responsibility to hold the door open for you or can you say "thank you" when I do it?

I did a double take for a moment and then figured you read it wrong
I actually just heard that this generation of children are the first generation to have a LOWER life expectancy as their parents (b/c of obesity mainly) - so while that is sad, I wonder if people will realize that this ever increasing lifestyle cannot last forever.
But I don't see it changing any time soon, especially in the area that we live.

Re: Era of Entitlement
i agree. i don't see it ending any time soon.
it's quite sad.
just last friday, a "higher-up" in the office was locked out. as i'm going home, he jumped to grab the door. i politely held it open for him. he pushed me out of the way and said nothing. to which i responded (with a very nasty tone), "YOU'RE WELCOME!!"
people just don't get it.
