Estimated Fetal Weight

I had a sono yesterday and they estimated the baby's weight to be 5lbs 10oz at 37 weeks. They said this was Small for Gestational Age. (didn't sound that small to me since they say baby gains 1/2 lb a week). Anyway...they sent me for a non stress test and bio pysical profile today. Today the baby measure at 6lbs 7oz!!!! (that's one day difference)

Are these tests that unrealiable? Now I'm scheduled for another NST and BPP next week!

Anyone have similar experience?

Claire was estimated at 40 weeks to be 9 lbs 10 oz........She was born at 41 weeks at 7lb 15 oz!.....Dont take the estimate too seriously, it will only cause you un needed stress!.....

I don't think those estimates are very accurate. I never had an estimate on the size of the baby done through an ultrasound, but my dr. told me he would be about 7 lbs. just from feeling my stomach. He was 6 lbs, 13 oz.

I have heard that they aren't very accurate. My doctor told me yesterday that as the baby gets further along the ultrasound measurements are less accurate too. Chat Icon

Everything I've read says that weight estimates by u/s can be really off sometimes. I wouldn't worry too much but it's good that they are being cautious and doing the tests.

At 37 weeks they estimated my baby to be 6lbs 5 oz and today, at 38wks my Dr could tell just by feeling my belly that the baby is over 7 lbs (so much for 1/2 per week!). Everyone who looks at me now says that it's definitely at least an 8lb baby! Chat Icon

Re: Estimated Fetal Weight

Ultrasounds can be around a pound off in the final weeks. Chat Icon Don't worry, I'm sure everything is fine. Chat Icon

Re: Estimated Fetal Weight

The estimates are not always accurate. Three weeks before my due date the doctor told me the baby was about 6 1/2 lbs, so he'd be close to or just over 8lbs. When I delivered the baby was 10lb 3oz. Chat Icon
