ETA 2 Day AFTERMATH Newbie had HSG today

Hi ladies

I suffered an ectopic pregnancy in March and I feel like I have been to hell and back. My doctor suggested I take a HSG after I was all healed. Well that day came today.


I read that the procedure can be painful so I took 3 advil 2 hours before and 3 advil 1 hour before. The procedure was still painful for me.

First they could not get my cervix to open. Not sure what that was about or if that is another problem I will be updated on later.

When they did the dye it only went through the right tube it seems and the doctor mentioned the right tube looked swollen.


I did not get much information as my primary doctor was on vacation and her replacement just kept telling me that my doctor would update me on everything.

So I just finish bawling my eyes out and decided to come on here and do some research and try to look on the positive side of things.

I so need a big humungous hug.

I'm 30 by the way and had no idea TTC could turn into such a nightmare.

I just wanted to add this because I searched and searched online and did not really find anyone else that had this experience. Friday and Saturday I experienced the worst pain in my life. I could not move to get help I was in so much pain. My husband came home and found me bent over and helped me up. I was sweating and having hot flashes and just in enormous pain.

We called the doctor and she said most likely my uterus was contracting from the procedure. It lasted 36 hours. I have been on pain killers the entire weekend.

Finally this morning I feel back to myself.

HSG is not pleasant, but the good news is its over. And now you will no what you are dealing with and be prepared

I personally think that the HSG is the most important test (besides bloodwork) that you can have done.
Because of the cervical issue and knowing that one tube is blocked and the other is a partial, you now know what exactly your options are. Your Dr. will have a clear idea as to how to proceed.
I'm sorry it was painful, but it's over now. When your Dr. comes back from vacation he/she will explain everything to you.

Thanks ladies. I am reading through these boards and you all are a ton of information. I have gone through a ton of emotions reading these posts last night. I have cried with some of you and man can I relate to some of you exactly.

I don't think anyone really knows how we feel but us.

You ladies really got me through the night. I have my family and friends but they just don't understand the way you all do.

I understand what you are going through. I had an ectopic also in March and you never get over it. I was so depress until I took the HSg test in May and found out my results showed that my tubes were clear and the dr gave me the okay to try again. I just found out that I am pregnant and I am 6 weeks. I am so scare and praying this time when I go take my sonogram on 8/15 that it will be in my uterus. I will say a pray for you God don't make mistakes.

Sorry you had such a bad experience...it s u c k s but at least now you are going a step in the right direction as to finding answers.

I am so sorry you had such bad side effects... Before my HSG I did a search and read lots of side effect stories, but after my HSG I was lucky enough not to really have any side effects.

YOu Poor thing! Im glad to hear you are feeling better!! I can't even imagine.
