Ethan is sick, and isn't taking any BM...what's the longest your DC has gone without BM/formula when sick??

Ethan has been sick since Sunday...at first the Dr. thought it was teething when we went Monday, but he got worse and we took him back on Wednesday, and he has an ear infection, and possibly the start of RSV.

Sun, Mon & Tues, he was having only 10-12 oz. of BM (I exclusively pump). But yesterday and today, he won't take any. He will only drink water. I've tried giving it in a bottle, sippy and regular cup, and he'll take 1 or 2 sips and push it away.

I'm getting really worried now as this is the 5th day with hardly any milk, and he's losing weight. He's barely eating solids too.

What's the longest your sick DC has gone without drinking BM/formula?? Is this normal for being sick, or should I really be worried? TIA...I'm going nutso with worry here

I would definitely call the ped back and ask them. My DD has never refused milk even when she's sick. If he is getting dehydrated it will be harder for him to recover. Poor thing - I hope he feels better soon!!

Thanks..I'm waiting for the ped. to call back. He's not dehydrated because he is still having wet diapers, and he'll drink water...just not BM :( He needs the calories..that's what worries me :/

DS had bronchiolitis and wouldn't nurse. I'd offer a bottle of pumped milk and he'd barely take an oz. He'd eat some yogurt, but refused everything else. The doctor wasn't too concerned since he had wet diapers. Within a few days, he was drinking more. It probably took a week before his appetite was really back though. Could you offer him pedialyte so he's getting some calories? I hope he feels better soon!
