Europass??
Does anyone know how these work? THis might seem like a stupid question, but can you just buy one, and use it on all the railways?

Re: Europass??
Is this a Eurail pass?
I had one years ago and you would get a piece of paper, and write your dates of travel on it. However, these days, its probably a little bit less primative. You get on the train and show it to the conductor/ticket taker person as they come along.
I believe there are certain countries that do not accept Eurail passes (ie the UK because no one in the UK wants to be called a part of Europe!)

Re: Europass??
You have to decide what countries you will be visiting and choose a pass that works in those specific countries. I used one when I lived in Europe and it worked out really well.

Re: Europass??
I used it when I went to Europe. You use it for all the trains and buses. If I'm remembering it correctly!

Re: Europass??
basically you buy a pass in Europe to travel all through out or just regionally.
I bought one for italy, it was to be used 3 days in 2 months.
just remember that, although you have this pass, you also have to pay for a reservation which is a separate fee not included in the past. at least that's how it was in Italy.
HTH !!

Re: Europass??
I used one 7 years ago when I backpacked around Europe the first time. It was great and probably saved us some money. I think it is a great idea. First you need to find out where you want to go. If I remember correctly, the UK and Eastern Europe (Prague is in this) are not included. So if you are thinking about either they have different passes for those areas. I also think if you are taking an overnite trip you have to pay for reservations and a bed ($20). Reservations are good for some trains, but not needed all the time. They cost like $5. You make them over there.
The second time I was over in Europe, I was living there, but I did use an Eastern Europe pass and the money didnt make much of a difference (eastern Europe can be really cheap). But it was good, b/c I didnt have to make reservations at the window, where not many people spoke English or German. I had a major problem getting out of Poland and back home to Germany b/c of this. It was not fun and Warsaw wasnt to my liking.
