Ever Contest a Purchase With Amex?????
If so what was your experience?? A little background, last month I purchased two sofas for my basement from Ashley furniture. They were not expensive ($750 each). Within a week of accepting delivery, I noticed both (one worse than the other) had damage or slight misweaves. My concern is that although its not bad now this will get worse, or if someone sits down who has something sharp on their pants, the sofa could rip.
So I called Ashley as well as Amex (luckily I hadn't paid them yet). This past week Ashley sent an inspector (an independent contractor) out to look at them. He photographed the damage and told me they would probably offer me new cushions. I told him I wanted new sofas, because I was concerned about dye lots and exact matches. He kind of laughed at me.
I'm sure they will formally offer me new cushions, but do I have a good chance of AMex backing me up??? Does it sound like I am being unreasonable?? As I said they aren't great qualtity to beging with, I knew that when I bought them. But its ridiculous that they are damaged within a week of delivery.
Just wondering what everyone's experience with Amex is??
Thanks!!

I've disputed charges on a credit card before, but never AMEX. However, I think AMEX would back you up because they're the credit cards of all credit cards. It's worth a shot...
Good luck!
PS... you're NOT being unreasonable... cheap or not, you have to live with these couches so you might as well get what you want!

Re: Ever Contest a Purchase With Amex?????
I disputed a charge and won. I love AmEx. I use them for everything now.
I purchased a skin care line for about $200 and within a week my skin broke out. I stopped using the stuff and a few days later my skin cleared up. I called the company and they would only offer me a store credit after the first week. Even after I explained the story they wouldn't budge. Why would I want a store credit when I am allergic to their products??? I got my $ back from AmEx.

I've never had a problem with AMEX ... in fact, the last two times (once a charge I didn't make and the other something that never shipped) I just made the inquiries online and they posted credits and that was that!

Amex is the best. I've been able to get satisfaction every time. I put everything on that card and it's well worth the annual fee.

They do offer cards now w/o the fees. I have the Blue Cash and love it. It's credit as opposed to charge though.

I can't be trusted with credit cards....
I need to be forced to pay in full it keeps me in line

Re: Ever Contest a Purchase With Amex?????
Slightly different, but one time before our wedding I bought a gift for my MOH using my Amex card, and the woman put in the wrong security code. THAT purchase went through, but the next purchase which was our wedding cake didn't go through. We had to call Amex and deal with it and were very annoyed. They raised our credit limit significantly soon after that, and we think it was because we sounded angry on the phone. So, they do try to make you happy.

I did check them out. Unfortunately, the problem didn't become apparent until a week or so later. If the problem existed at the get go, I wouldn't need Amex to help rectify it.

Re: Ever Contest a Purchase With Amex?????
I am on the flip side of AmEx. I (the vendor) have very rarely won a dispute with a cardholder. The company gets chargebacks and I have to defend them. I've sent war and peace of documentation showing how the company is in the right including signed papers from the cardholder and AmEx has still favored with the cardholder.
I also worked for AmEx for 5 years and they are brutal.
Also they are a charge card not a credit card. Big difference

I'm dumb. Could you explain the difference between a CHARGE card and a CREDIT card?
I always thought the two words were interchangeable...

You have to pay off the balance each month. You don't have credit- meaning they are techincally giving you money you can't afford - there's no revolving debt.
Unless you have the blue card.

Re: Ever Contest a Purchase With Amex?????
I've looked into the Blue Card, but it's much to tempting for me to run up a balance.
I like the charge card..keeps me honest. I like paying it all off in one shot and having to do it. I also love the miles!!!!
I have a dispute right now going with a rental car company. I rented a car through insurance because somebody hit me. Allstate was supposed to pick up the tab but they charged my card. This was Enterprise's mistake. Doesn't surprise me at all since they were really not very good to begin with and the car was a POS.
Amex said they get a lot of these type disputes.
So dispute it all the way. Amex has a great reputation. I've been a loyal cardmember since 1990 and I really don't know what I would do without them.
In fact, I asked to change my billing closing date due to cash flow issues and they did it no problem at all.

Yes that is correct
Also Optima. The Optima card is a credit card. I had the regular green, optima and blue.
