Ever get rid of ALL of your clothes?

I am up to my eyeballs in clothes that I have worn maybe once in the past year. For some reason I always hold onto clothes and rarely get rid of them. I have a lot of nothing in my closet.

Has anyone ever just gone into their closet and gotten rid of it ALL? Would I be crazy to do that? Start over with just a few nice pieces? Obviously I would keep my nice jeans and things like that.

Re: Ever get rid of ALL of your clothes?

I dream about doing that... but I could never.

I'd be too worried about having nothing to wear... and I wouldn't be able to afford to buy a ton of new stuff at once.

But trust me- there are times I want to start from scratch!

I have trouble parting with anything for fear I might want to wear it again... please- I never do.
I'm just a huge pack rat!

Re: Ever get rid of ALL of your clothes?

I do it...pretty much for the change of season, so i just start tossing about all that I didnt wear..i cant stand holding on to things, thinking I may fit into them again or wear them ONCE down the rd.
So that leaves me to looking forward to new purchased for the season to come.

I also just dont have the room or storage for it.

So yea..i guess you can say I do try to start over. Chat Icon

I do bags to give to ppl who I know who fit them or may need them.
Some ppl love hand me downs, esp if they are in good condition.

PLEASE come to my house and just throw it out for me. I can't part with my things. But for some reasons, sweaters I have no problem throwing out. I think I am down to about 4. Chat Icon

I have about 25 pairs of jeans, and I wear 2. Chat Icon I won't be wearing regular clothes this winter, so I may just need to do it.

Not all of them but I have been giving some stuff away since I got pregnant. That makes me feel better than just throwing them away you know?

A couple of years ago I did a big purge. I didn't get rid of everything but anything I didn't wear or shouldn't wear went to good will.

Re: Ever get rid of ALL of your clothes?

I did it. We have been moving so much, I was just packing up the same clothes I never wore over and over again.

Leo works with a lot of poor people, so he brings the clothes into work.

I sold all of my work clothes on ebay.

If I am at the store buying something, I know I have to go home and get rid of something.

Re: Ever get rid of ALL of your clothes?

I have EXACT same problem.

I really SHOULD just donate all of it and start fresh. But there's something very unnerving about that.

You've given me something to think about...maybe after the baby is born, I'll start saving some money so that I can start fresh. Chat Icon

I purge my clothes a few times a year and donate to charity, but I would never get rid of everything I owned in 1 shot.

Same here, although in the past 2 years I've pretty much gotten rid of everything and started from scratch, since I never lost the baby weight.

Re: Ever get rid of ALL of your clothes?

Every few months I go through my clothes and donate one black bag. If I haven't worn it in a year with the exceptions of me being pg for that time it goes. Granted my wardrob isn't that great now and consists of only the basics but I don't mind. I am not going out anywhere fancy and if I am I will buy it.

I am sure Diana could clear it out for you Chat Icon

Re: Ever get rid of ALL of your clothes?

yes! I have to do it again, like you said lots of nothing.

But I tossed out everything above a size 12. Now i have to toss everything above a size 8!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I used to hold on to all of my sizes, but since I don't ever plan on going above an 8 ever again, I'm getting rid of them!!!!!!

Re: Ever get rid of ALL of your clothes?

I am contemplating doing this myself. But the thing is that I can't get over how much money I have sunk into all of them! I know that's a stupid reason, but I just haven't been able to do it. I have my usual excuses:

"What if I lose weight and can suddenly fit into them again"

"This may come back into style"

"You really liked this when you bought it...you can't get rid of it now."

It's like I have a clothing Gremlin in my head telling me to keep it all. Chat Icon

I have never gotten rid of it all, but recently I went through and got rid of 30%. It was stuff I never wore and would never wear in the future. I kept holding onto them for that "what if" moment. Eventually I decided I haven;t had a "what if" moment and years and donated my clothes.

Re: Ever get rid of ALL of your clothes?

I did it after we were married....I threw EVERYTHING away except: favorite bra, AF undies(why buy new for this) fav 3 pj pants and tee shirts, 2 fav pairs of jeans and my can't live with out sweaters(I had 3) and bumming around shirts(Also had 3)...I went to JC Penny when they had huge sales nad Old Navy online and store and bought new...It took some time but I'm much happier with what I have. This summer I threw EVERYTHING away for summer except 2 tanks and started fresh..SO happy I did that. When I purged I knew my closet and drawers would be empty but I also knew I was starting a new chapter with turning 25 and being married. What I had was no longer age/status appropriate. I had 7 garbage bags I took to work for people to look through and then what was left went to the womens shelter/underground railroad. I felt better knowing somebody would appreciat it

Re: Ever get rid of ALL of your clothes?

I did it twice. Once when I gained a whole bunch of weight (went up 6 sizes) and convinced myself I'd never lose it, so I got rid of all my smaller stuff. Then, when I eventually did lose the weight Chat Icon, I got rid of the bigger stuff and bought new smaller stuff. Now I vow never to let happen again. Oh well, live and learn.

Re: Ever get rid of ALL of your clothes?

once when I was younger

I lost a ton of weight and swore I would never go back up

well- sure enough I did- and I had nothing to wear

which is now why my closet have 3 different sizes in it
