Ever realize you need to get your "emotions" in check?
So I have a waxing appointment scheduled for 6:00....I just called to cancel, and the reception said "Not a problem, next time call us 24-hrs in advance."
My response: "Yeah, next time I'll make sure that a death in the family doesn't coincide with my waxing appointment, as I'd never want to throw off your schedule."
I don't understand why I need to be "scolded" for rescheduling an appointment....would it be better to not show up?
ugh.

Re: Ever realize you need to get your "emotions" in check?
I don't think she was out of line, she was doing her job. I have no doubt people cancel all the time without notice and it does screw up their schedule. They're trying to run a business... Everyones time is money, I know I'd be pizzed if someone cancelled on me without notice.
Now oibviously, in this case, you couldn't have possibly known you were going to need to cancel your appointment but for that matter neither did the receptionist. I'm sure if you she knew why you were cancelling first she would have reconsidered saying what she said.
Having said all that, I wouldn't sweat what she said at all and I'm sorry for your loss.

Re: Ever realize you need to get your "emotions" in check?
I agree with Jen - she was just doing her job. The way you relay the story it doesn't sound like she was chastizing you, but more like she was probably told to tell people who cancel that they need to give 24 hours notice. My doctor actually charges 25 dollars if you cancel the day of your appointment.
Having said that - I don't think you were inappropriate. You lost someone and it hurts and hearing the receptionist tell you to give 24 hours notice is the LAST thing you need to hear.
I am very sorry for you loss.

Re: Ever realize you need to get your "emotions" in check?
Thank you for all the prayers and hugs...
___ and to clarify...she (the receptionist) was absolutely condescending in her tone - there's no mistake about it.
She even managed to huff mid-sentence....normally, I would never react to someone "advising"...but this receptionist was nasty...completely unprofessional.
Just wanted to clarify that as it was more along the lines of "No problem...ugh...(huff)...next time call us 24 hours in advance (huff) okay?"

Well then she's a straight up b*tch and I think you showed self control in your response.

Re: Ever realize you need to get your "emotions" in check?
I am sorry for your loss ... And I do not think you were wrong with your reaction.
Not that it is actually any of her business, if you had initiated the conversation by saying something to the effect of:
"We had a death in the family, and I need to cancel my appointment"
I would hope that she would have responded with more sympathy than attitude.
She probably gets calls from people all day long canceling appointments for no real reason, and like the previous poster said, time is money. The canceled appointment is now income lost to them, since they probably won't fill the appointment with limited notice.
(Edited to clarify)
