Ever stay at a Lesser Expensive Resort
Did you have a great time, a beach is a beach, and did not need a 5*? or Were you totally dissappointed, got what you paid for, and wish you spent a little more?
List places please TIA!

Re: Ever stay at a Lesser Expensive Resort
My general rule with vacations is if I'm doing Europe I'm budget conscious with the hotel since I'm really only concerned with having a prime location and having a clean and decent room. When I'm doing a beachy/caribbean type of trip I really don't like to go budget since you spend so much time at the resort. Yes you might have access to the same beach, but the service and amenities are all on a different level. I think it's worth it to spend a little more and give yourselves a whole different style of vacation.
ETA: I go to Breezes Bahamas with the girls a lot because we stay for free. It's a three star (I think) all inclusive and while we do enjoy our trips there, I have to say I'd feel differently if I was actually shelling out money to go there. For a few hundred more your surroundings could be totally different.

Re: Ever stay at a Lesser Expensive Resort
I prefer nicer hotels. They don't have to be 5-star, but I think I've out-grown staying in hotels where I'm skeeved to take my socks off!
I've stayed at lesser expensive resorts, and if I know that going into the trip, then it's ok. A trip is still a trip.
Will the services, rooms, pools, etc. be better at a more expensive resort? I certainly hope so. But if you really need to get away and just want to have fun, then there is nothing wrong with going the cheaper route. It's still a vacation, right??
I will say, however, that we didn't go top-notch for our honeymoon. And while we were on our HM, I saw other hotels that I wanted to stay at, and I wished I splurged and stayed there instead. Now, 1 year later, we just booked a really nice resort for our 1-yr. anniversary. I'm making up for what we didn't do for our honeymoon!

Re: Ever stay at a Lesser Expensive Resort
We have but, the ones we stayed at were still nice.
For instance, in Maui, we stayed at the Westin, a 4 star, and it was wonderful! In Cancun, we stayed at the Marriott Casamagna (4 star), instead of the JW Marriott (4 1/2 star), and it was a great, we loved it!
I think it all depends on the place/situation and what's important to you.

Yes, I definitely don't mean a roach motel but maybe not the top there is or the top room grade.

Re: Ever stay at a Lesser Expensive Resort
For room grade, we usually opt for the least expensive one. We figure if we're at a nice resort, how long are we going to be in the room anyway?

I always opt for the cheaper room grade. I don't skimp on hotel though. 4* or higher. Esp. if I'll be there for a while (like a week or longer).

Re: Ever stay at a Lesser Expensive Resort
We've stayed at some three star hotels and were very satisfied. we don't stay in our room that much when we are on vacation. As long as they are clean that is all that really matters to us!
