Everyday at 2:00, I am reminded of how much I value my job

Everyday at 2:00, the man comes and cleans the bathrooms on my floor.

These are bathrooms for the entire floor, and a lot of people and children use them. Sometimes they are downright disgusting.

This man comes and makes them sparkling clean.

Everyday, he has a smile on his face. I have never seen a person with so much dignity and appreciation for his job.

He never looks disgusted, or upset. People with much higher paying jobs, I'm sure, stomp and huff around the hallways and in my office. Including me.

Seeing this man (who I thank when I see him finishing up if I happen to be pacing around, having to pee like crazy!!! Chat Icon ) doing what he does with such a happy, peaceful demeanor makes me think of how I should be everyday. This man wakes up every morning knowing his job is literally cleaning up after people and their sh*t.

Just wanted to share. We were talking about him in our office. I wonder how many people actually thank this man.

Wow..I have such respect for people like that. Sometimes I wish I could more like that myself. It's so easy to forget just how lucky and fortunate we are to have what we have.

I think about this a lot myself too when I see people doing jobs like that.

I often complain and get stressed and upset about the most menial BS at my job when all in all, I am getting paid well, I sit in a warm office, on my @ss at a desk, on a new laptop, have a lot of fun and laugh- and am treated with dignity and respect.
Not much to complain about when you compare it to a job like the one you describe.

Really makes you think and appreciate what you have!

That's like Harry! He's the man who cleans the lobby of our building every night. I know him well, becuase I'm always here at odd hours Chat Icon

He's such a nice guy... he'll go out of the way for a person (even found the spare key to let me into my lab when I lost my key)... the lobby is always spotless, despite the heavy traffic...

Our school custodian is BY FAR my favorite person/colleague at my school.

It isn't even a contest. He is the most humble, hardworking man I've ever met.

I totally Chat Icon my custodian. He puts up with so much crap! The students really treat the school like crap sometimes and we have been really trying to get them to clean up after themselves. The custodian even commented on it!

Same here. I always thank our custodian when he comes to empty our garbage, when he cleans my play therapy room, etc. A few of us chip in to buy him a holiday gift. He deserves every bit of it.

sounds just like Eli Scruggs. The guy this weeks Desperate Housewives was about.

The episode moved me, I wonder if this is what sparked the conversation.

Actually, what happened was we were b*tching and moanng that the bathroom wasn't availabe, and we all had to pee.... Then we said how awesome he was, and he was always smiling, so we couln't be too annoyed...

I find the cleaning people to be the nicest ever and the humblest people. I always say hello and thank you when they come into my office, water my plants, empty my garbage etc. because my mother cleaned offices when I was a baby and I owe that office to her you know what I mean. Chat Icon
