Excessed Teacher - Employment Ideas
I am being excessed as of Friday and although I love teaching, there are just no jobs out there in my area and the thought of either being unemployed long term and/or subbing do not appeal to me. I have been looking/applying for jobs, but so far very few bites. I do have on lead at an insurance company, but I am not sure if that is something I am interested in....
So - if you were excessed and now have a job in a new field - what field are you in? At this point, I am not looking to go back to school - if I still have no prospects by the end of the summer - I may start looking into taking classes. I have a degree in Biology and a degree in secondary education.

Re: Excessed Teacher - Employment Ideas
Is there a college in your area? My DH works as an adjunct professor (he teaches HS math during the day). There are lots of other roles in colleges that are great for former teachers: admissions/recruitment, academic advising etc. Check out HigherEdJobs.com.
I know someone that quit teaching and got a job with a company that writes textbooks.
Definitely advertise as a tutor. It's all cash and you're a science teacher - which is a high demand field.
Good luck!!!

Re: Excessed Teacher - Employment Ideas
Thanks for the information. I have been looking into higher ed since that is what my sister does, but I know the pay is not really that good.
I have also looked into Pearson and Scholastic, but they do not have huge offices by me so the job opportunities are limited....
