Excessing...
anyone else get the news yet? I'm supposed to get tenure in October, now it looks like I'll be going back as a permanent sub for half my salary. that everyone else's jobs are safe and to those in the same situation as me!

Re: Excessing...
I always say to wait and see...hopefully you will get some good news.
It's scary. I had to cut my maternity leave short to protect my position
Good luck

Re: Excessing...
I know there is excessing out where I live, Tuckahoe (Southampton) school district and Springs (East Hampton) school district. But I also know of 2 districts hiring out here. It's scary, but early. Try not to worry too much yet, people will choose to leave and positions will reopen.

Re: Excessing...
Are you in NYC? If so you will still get tenure.

Re: Excessing...
Honestly- if it comes down to a wage freeze vs. layoffs then I am all for the freeze. I'd hate to see people laid off. It's so hard for districts to recover. I know quite a few districts where I live have accepted freezes in exchange for no to minimal layoffs.
ETA- in NYC the Mayor and Chancellor are salivating to overturn last in first out. We'll see- this could get hairy.

Re: Excessing...
I agree 100% about the wage freeze, and would 100% be in favor of it even if it weren't my job on the chopping block (again!). The classes are at maximum cap and of course, there is no layoffs at c.o. Anyway, I'm just hoping that the 55/25 incentive comes down. There are 16 teachers in my district that could take that option-not that they all will, but still, at least it's something! I'm not in NYC, I'm on the island on kind of the south shore in western suffolk. I just want to end one year knowing I'll be back in September!
